From the moment you begin the game and complete the initial tutorial, you're technically able to navigate to and access any part of the map that you wish. Rather than having to go straight to any particular main quest, you can discover the world and its many in-depth quests and characters.

You enter the world as the familiar protagonist Link, who comes to find out that his existence is intrinsically tied to the main quest you've been tasked with: defeating Ganon and restoring peace to Hyrule.

The more that you play Breath of the Wild, the more that you discover what the game has to offer. With more than 100 mini-dungeons referred to as 'Shrines,' a multitude of terrains to discover, and a compendium of monsters to study and defeat, you're sure to get more than 60 hours of enjoyable gameplay out of this legitimate masterpiece.

Made by Quantic Dream — a studio well known for games like Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls — Detroit: Become Human is a film-like experience where you navigate through a seemingly linear journey with hundreds of potential outcomes and scenarios.

You play the game as three different characters named Markus, Kara, and Connor, who are all androids living in a futuristic society with seemingly utopian resources. However, as you start to get to know your characters and have the opportunity to explore a bit of the world, it becomes apparent that the perceived utopian aspects of the society are, in actuality, dystopian.

As you progress through the game, you're presented with an increasing number of choices to make that all have noticeably permanent repercussions. Some choices provide you with a fair amount of time to decide on a response/action, while others are quick-time and will only give you a few seconds to make a potentially important decision.

The game presents themes of existentialism, moral grey areas, and android obedience vs. sentience. From start to finish, this is a game where you'll fall in love with the characters that you choose to create (through their decisions), and it's sure to keep you constantly gripped from start to finish.

Persona 5 is a game that you'll probably never be able to get me to stop talking about. No, seriously. No wait, I'm actually not kidding. 

Based in Tokyo, Persona 5 is a game that can't really be compared to anything else — aside from the other games in the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series. As the main protagonist, Joker, you move to Tokyo after running into some issues in your hometown. But once you arrive in Tokyo and begin attending school, it becomes clear that things are not truly what they seem. 

Persona's gameplay is unique in that it involves two different worlds: the world of the living, and the cognitive world — a world filled with manifestations of antagonists' deepest and darkest desires. Using an app that mysteriously appears on your in-game phone, you can teleport between worlds.

In the cognitive world, antagonists' desires manifest in the form of dungeon-puzzle type buildings, referred to as 'Palaces.' It's your job to sneak into and explore these palaces, find the treasure of an antagonist, and steal it to resultantly 'steal away their desires.' Fighting in-game involves a turn-based attack system and several JRPG elements that fans of series like Final Fantasy may enjoy.

When you're in the real world of Persona, you're able to explore many parts of Tokyo freely, find people to meet, activities to do, and places to be. Persona's real-world gameplay essentially serves as a life simulator that allows you to interact with characters and get to know them better, while also working on your own 'social stats' (including Guts, Knowledge, Proficiency, Charm, and more) through various activities. These character relationships and social stats are important, as they subsequently affect your abilities within the cognitive world.

God of War is a series that has long been hailed as one of the greatest hack and slash adventure games of the 2000s. Most players who loved the series loved it for titles like God of War 1, 2, and 3, rather than the many side-games that released in the following years. 

God of War (the 2018 title) is as close to a spiritual reboot of a series as you can possibly get. Rather than being a full-blown reboot, the game involves a wide variety of familiar elements, but with excessive levels of optimization and improvement. 

Unlike with the previous God of War games, this game has a much more expansive feel via the inclusion of open-world elements. Although the missions maintain the linearity of previous titles, there are a large number of side-quests that offer exploration of the vast world, its many characters, and its fascinating lore.

As the familiar protagonist Kratos, you explore the mysterious and intriguing world(s) of Norse mythology (unlike the greek mythology of older, now-famed titles). You're ed by your son Atreus, who aids you in combat as you journey to lay your wife Faye's ashes atop the highest mountain peak in the realm. Although you're introduced to this premise initially, as you continue to play, you begin to realize that there is much more to the story than meets the eye.

Combat is exceptionally fluid in this game, with the hack and slash elements of previous games being upended for a wholly new action RPG-influenced style of battle. As you fight your way through enemies with your 'Leviathan Axe,' Atreus will assist you by using his bow and arrow. Skills and abilities are customizable as you progress further through the story, enabling unique combos and visually stunning abilities. Although this gameplay is entirely different from the original God of War titles, if you're a fan of action RPG fight styles, you'll fall in love with this game immediately. 

God of War is an experience that feels like it truly takes gaming to its storytelling limits. In essence, it's a tale that familiarizes you with Kratos and Atreus, bonding you further and further with these characters as you begin to experience more of their interactions. Whether its the gorgeous visuals, the fantastic story, the exciting gameplay, or even just the fascinating lore, once you pick this game up, you won't be able to put it down! 

For fans of action RPG style superhero games, there's been a bit of a drought in of fantastic games ever since the release of Arkham Knight (and the previous titles in the Arkham trilogy). And since these Arkham titles stood out as superhero games that transcended the sub-genres' usual limitations, fans have been looking for a game with a similar gameplay style, gorgeous visuals, and a similarly captivating story.

Over the past few years, many of Capcom's older series have begun to make a resurgence as a result of their remakes, reboots, and series continuations. And around the same time, the Resident Evil 2 remake was released to similarly critical acclaim in 2019. 

Resident Evil is a series that focuses on its world-building just as much on its dynamic gameplay to create a frighteningly enjoyable experience. Resident Evil 2 is a remake that understands and maintains everything that fans loved about the original while updating and adding to elements that would improve and modernize the game's overall experience.

Play through the game as the main characters Leon and Claire, who experience the zombie apocalypse in Raccoon City from two different perspectives. As you work through the various puzzles, missions, and suspenseful situations, you'll grow more and more unsure of what's hiding around the corner.

From the moment you start the game, you'll feel on-edge as you rush through a hoard of zombies to flee to safety. The Outer Worlds is a game that's sure to please fans of the earlier titles in the Fallout series. Although Fallout 4 is a fantastic game and one of the most played Fallout games, the series' relevancy and positive reception have definitely decreased ever since the release of the extremely underwhelming Fallout 76.

For many longtime fans of the series, Fallout New Vegas is an under-appreciated gem and presents one of the best stories in the series. The Outer Worlds is one of the first cases where fans of New Vegas, Fallout 4, and newcomers can all find a multitude of things that they love about the game.

Made by Obsidian Entertainment, the same studio that made Fallout New Vegas, The Outer Worlds is a masterclass on how to refine core elements of gameplay in a first-person shooter, while adding quirks and abilities that make the experience feel fresh and unique.

As the protagonist, you're awoken by a stranger (a quirky and curious scientist) on board a massive ship floating through an unfamiliar star system. As you realize you're the only person who was awoken, and that there are a large number of other engers in cryosleep, the scientist who's awakened you almost immediately sends you to the nearest plan via an escape pod. From this point, the star system is your oyster, and it's up to you to choose what to do. Will you help the scientist awaken more of the engers on your ship? Or turn against him and side with the unknown entity that the scientist is hoping to oppose?

The gameplay in this game is relatively fluid and has minor issues, and the story feels like it was crafted with ion and attention to detail. Although the story can occasionally have its limitations, the overall experience of the game makes up for it. Whether it's the uniquely gorgeous visuals, the addictive gameplay, the attention to detail with world-building, or the charismatic characters, The Outer Worlds is a fantastic effort in Obsidian's release history, and hopefully is a sign of more to come in the future.

Final Fantasy is a series that has remained enticing to longtime fans and somewhat confusing to first-timers for more than 20 years. And, oddly enough, Final Fantasy XV is one of the only games in the series that feels like it's made more for first-timers rather than longtime fans.

The original release of Final Fantasy XV was bogged down by a number of fan-reported issues. Between bugs and glitches, a seemingly incomplete story (somewhat explained by post-release DLC), and a notable shift from previous turn-based fighting systems to an active hack and slash system, longtime fans of the series felt like this game was too much of a departure from what made them love previous Final Fantasy titles.

However, Final Fantasy XV has brought the series to the attention of many first-time players. If you're unfamiliar with previous final fantasy titles, or someone who's been hoping to find the game to introduce them to the series, this may be the perfect game for you to start with.
