Thor Odinson of Asgard has hit theaters yet again with Thor: Love And Thunder and this make it the perfect time to play as the god of thunder in video games. Even before Chris Hemsworth first portrayed the character in 2011, Thor was in multiple Marvel games.

This would continue to be the case even after the MCU made Thor into a modern action hero. There are games set in the MCU and some heavily inspired by it. These games all range from RPGs to action-adventure games, to live-service titles still in the works. Those looking to play Jane Foster as The Mighty Thor can also find what they are looking for in some of these titles.

Thor: God Of Thunder (2011)

Thor meeting Mangog for the first time in Thor God Of Thunder

Based on the first Thor movie, Thor: God Of Thunder is more or less a rip-off of the original God Of War trilogy. The titular hero plays very similarly to that hack-and-slash gameplay style just with a hammer with new upgrades to unlock throughout the game. Like most games based on Phase One MCU films, it is a rushed attempt to make a game based on a movie.

However, it's not the worst game to play as it can be a fun time waster considering the campaign can be beaten in just over two hours. It also features actors like Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston reprising their roles, making for a unique experience as they lend their voices to events that never happened in the movie.

LEGO Marvel's Avengers (2016)

Where other LEGO Marvel games are set in their own Marvel universe, LEGO Marvel's Avengers is the only one based on the MCU. Specifically, it retells the events of Avengers: Age Of Ultron in the same silly fashion usually seen in LEGO games.

Other than that, it's more of the same quality content that TT Games usually provides. Lots of stud collecting, destroying the environment, solving puzzles, and unlocking a massive roster of characters. This includes Thor and how he looked in Age Of Ultron as well as an unlockable Jane Foster as The Mighty Thor.

Marvel Contest Of Champions (2014)

One of the longest-running Marvel mobile games, Content Of Champions is littered with many characters with different versions of characters. Thor has his base version but a variant based on Thor: Ragnarok. Most recently, Jane Foster AKA The Mighty Thor, Valkyrie, and Gorr The God Butcher were all added to the game.

On top of all that are other playable characters including Hela, Loki, Korg, and Mangog from Thor's mythology. All have their own unique abilities and perks that they bring to the 1v1 mobile tournament fighter. Players can assemble their own team of unique Thor-themed teams.

Marvel Strike Force (2018)

If button mashing is not preferred, Marvel Strike Force provides a more tactical experience as a turn-based RPG. This mobile game also allows fans to create their own dream team of Thor characters including Odinson, Heimdall, Hela, The Mighty Thor, Valkyrie, Lady Sif, Loki, and more.

All of these characters can also be paired with other characters to create unique and dynamic teams. Marvel Strike Force already has plenty of teams to pick from and assemble, leading to perks and ive abilities as a result.

Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (2019)

As an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3 was a welcomed return of the classic RPG series set in the Marvel universe. It has its own lineup of great characters that stand out in the roster. Much like its predecessor, it mixes many expected characters with atypical additions to the roster.

Unfortunately, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3 only features two characters from the Thor mythos, even with the DLC expansions. Thor Odinson is obvious but Loki s the roster for the first time in this series. The two make for a powerful pair, especially when allied with other heroes and villains such as Spider-Man or Magneto.

Marvel Future Fight (2015)

Taking on a roguelike RPG style, Marvel: Future Fight has probably the largest roster of the Marvel mobile games since its release in 2015. Each character also has alternate costumes with recent costume additions being Thor, Mighty Thor, and Valkyrie's designs from Thor: Love And Thunder.

Volstagg of the Warriors Three is playable as well as Odin, Beta Ray Bill, Angela, Malekith, The Destroyer, Hela, Enchantress, and so much more. Future Fight easily has the biggest roster of playable Thor characters than any other game out there.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (2017)

Now with a bigger open world and even bigger character roster, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 has different heroes and villains across space and time. Spider-Gwen, Doctor Strange, She-Hulk, and of course, Thor all play a role in the original story about Kang The Conqueror.

These characters can all be used in free roam as well, with many featuring unique animations and transformations depending on the character. There are various versions of Thor, The Mighty Thor herself, Enchantress, Hela, Heimdall, and many more to play throughout the story and many activities. It's essentially more of what LEGO Marvel's Avengers brought but even better.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (2006)

Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Thor in the Watcher's realm in Ultimate Alliance

For many years, Marvel Ultimate Alliance was the closest thing to an Avengers movie they would ever see. It had Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and various heroes from other teams working together to fight Doctor Doom, Loki, The Mandarin, and Mephisto.

It felt like a big crossover event from the comics that allowed fans to be the heroes and create their own teams. It's one of many superhero games that deserve a remaster since they still hold up so much. Thor is one of the biggest of Ultimate Alliance, featured in all the story segments alongside Captain America, Spider-Man, and Wolverine.

Marvel's Avengers (2020)

Thor Odinson, Jane Foster The Mighty Thor, Black Widow, and Captain America as a team in Marvel's Avengers

There is no denying that Crystal Dynamics had a rough launch with Marvel's Avengers but over two years later with many content drops and patches, the live-service title has improved. Even from launch, the main campaign for Marvel's Avengers was the best thing about it, establishing a new version of the Marvel universe with talented voice actors such as Laura Bailey and Nolan North taking on characters.

Thor Odinson was one of the standouts, portrayed as a wiser warrior who stole the show throughout the main campaign. Since then, characters such as Black Panther and Spider-Man have been great additions to an already high-quality roster of heroes. Recently, Jane Foster became playable as the Mighty Thor, allowing fans to experience playing as a god of thunder in two different ways.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 (2009)

Thor, Daredevil, Spider-Man, and Mr. Fantastic united as a team in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Despite finding a working copy of Ultimate Alliance 2 being a hassle, it is worth it because it takes the formula already set with the first game and improves upon it. There are now two campaigns instead of one, the roster is even more diverse thanks to the inclusion of villains, and the RPG elements are even stronger.

Thor returns for this one and he's even better than before. He has fewer costumes but his gameplay is improved with new abilities, powers, and fusion attacks. With the updated visuals and even stronger story, Ultimate Alliance 2 is an ideal way to play as any of the characters featured.
