One of the biggest anime studios of the past decade is undoubtedly WIT Studio. While only being established in 2012, WIT Studio has made a name for itself with the incredible level of quality put into its productions, both for adaptations and original anime, and anytime they take on a new project, it’s almost guaranteed to be one of the best anime of its respective season.
WIT Studio is one of the biggest anime studios around, and they’ve more than earned that reputation. Nearly every project they work on is one with a fantastic story that anyone watching can get invested in, and with the incredible visuals that accompany nearly every anime they work on, WIT Studio, whether visually or narratively, has some of the most consistently good anime of any modern anime studio. A few of their projects are especially worth highlighting, and each one should do a perfect job of showcasing why the studio is held in such high regard.

2024’s My Deer Friend Nokotan stars Torako “Koshitan” Koshi, a former delinquent trying to reinvent herself as a model high school student. Koshitan’s plans, however, are completely upended by Noko “Nokotan” Shikanoko, a bizarre girl with antlers sticking out of her head who repeatedly does increasingly impossible things, with Koshitan always being dragged along for the ride as she’s the only one who ever seems to have a problem with it.
My Deer Friend Nokotan isn’t one of WIT Studio’s most impressive works, as not only are the visuals highly inconsistent, but even its absurdist humor, the main thing it was marketed with, tends to fall flat, more often than not. That being said, not only does the anime look good more often than not, but My Deer Friend Nokotan, while not the funniest anime around, still has great visual and verbal comedy, so it’s still plenty worth watching.

Great Pretender stars Makoto Edamura, a wannabe pickpocket who tries to go after someone he assumes to be an easy mark, but is actually a master conman named Laurent Thierry. Impressed, Laurent decides to take Makoto, now nicknamed "Edamame", under his wing and teach him everything there is to being a master conman so the two of them can work to con the villainous out of everything they have.
Great Pretender is a great anime thanks to its cast of eccentric and roguish characters who play off of one another with clever dialogue, all of which is greatly complemented by incredible art, animation, and overall direction from start to finish. The stylistically cool vibes perfectly capture the essence of a good heist story, and anyone looking for something like that would be remiss to it up.

Netflix's New Anime Is The Dragon Ball Successor We Didn't Know We Needed
Netflix has just released a reboot of the classic '90s anime Yaiba, and it's making a good case for being Dragon Ball's long-awaited successor.
Yaiba was originally a fairly niche series from the 80s and 90s, but thanks to WIT Studio’s reboot of Yaiba, Yaiba: Samurai Legend is one of the best anime of spring 2025, thanks to its incredible animation and overall direction. Add in how it was made by the creator of Detective Conan, and it has all the makings of a modern classic that everyone should get invested in.

2017’s The Ancient Magus’ Bride stars Chise Hatori, a girl who sells herself into slavery after her mother’s suicide and being abandoned by the rest of her family. The one to buy Chise is Elias Ainsworth, a powerful magus who takes Chise on as his apprentice to help her control the magical abilities that will kill her in a few years, all while pledging to marry Chise one day.
Not only does the anime perfectly depict a magical world with plenty of great detail put into everything, but the cast is filled with a myriad of fun characters, and going along with that, Chise and Elias’ relationship, as complicated as it is, never fails to depict their close bond as the heart of the show. Studio Kafka took over the anime with season 2, but even then, WIT Studio’s fantastic work on The Ancient Magus’ Bride can’t be ignored.

2021’s Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song stars Diva, an AI programmed to make people happy with her songs, although hardly anyone gives her singing the time of day. Nevertheless, Diva is content to keep singing, even if no one listens, but all of that changes when Vivy meets Matsumoto, an AI who traveled through time to get Diva to help him prevent a war between humans and AI, and Diva, now calling herself Vivy, is happy to help.
Not only is the animation some of the best of any WIT Studio production, but when combined with the melancholic and contemplative writing, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song does a great job of using its writing and visuals to tell a fantastic story of music and humanity. Re:Zero creator Tappei Nagatsuki created Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song in collaboration with Eiji Umehara, and there’s no better showing of its incredible level of quality.

2021’s Ranking of Kings takes place in a fantasy world where the kings of all nations are ranked by the Gods, with the top-ranking king being entitled to a boon from the Divine Treasure Vault. Bojji, the prince of Bosse, aspires to become the greatest of kings, despite being born deaf and incredibly small for a giant, and he just might have a chance with help from a mysterious shadow creature named Kage.
Ranking of Kings does a great job of taking a dense, political fantasy story and making it accessible to younger fans with its lighthearted and endearing characters, especially Bojji, and the unique art style and animation used to convey it all make it even better to watch play out. A Ranking of Kings movie has been in development since 2023, and hopefully, it will be as great a follow-up to the anime a fan could ask for.
4 The Girl From The Other Side
Directed By Yutaro Kubo And Satomi Maiya; Based On The Manga By Nagabe
2022’s The Girl from the Other Side takes place in a fantasy world where a curse has been turning people into demonic creatures called Outsiders, with the regular humans called Insiders. One of those Insiders, a young girl named Shiva, is abandoned and then taken in by an Outsider only referred to as Teacher, and the two quickly form a strong bond where Teacher will do anything to protect her.
From the very beginning, The Girl from the Other Side does a perfect job of depicting a world that, despite being dark and mysterious, has plenty of heart underneath it all, much of which comes from the heartwarming bond between Teacher and Shiva and the gorgeous and unique artwork and animation used throughout the story. The OVA series doesn’t cover the entire story, but anyone looking for a short, haunting fantasy story would be remiss to it up.

It’s one of the biggest stories to come out of the Shonen Jump label, by far, and once Spy x Family season 3 comes out, it’s only going to get bigger.

2019’s Vinland Saga is a fictional of the life of Thorfinn Karlsefni, the first Viking to form a major settlement in North America, i.e. Vinland. When Thorfinn watched his father be killed in cold blood, he devoted his life to killing the man responsible, and when that story concluded, Thorfinn was forced to grapple with the sins of his past and the uncertainty of what he should do next with his life.
Vinland Saga’s incredible action is one thing, but more importantly, Vinland Saga is incredible because of its masterful character writing and how great a job it does of telling a philosophical and emotional human drama, even when action is the main focus. MAPPA took over Vinland Saga with season 2, but WIT Studio’s work is still a masterpiece, and with the Vinland Saga manga coming to an end, there’s no better time to pick it up.

Attack On Titan: Ranking Every Special Titan From Weakest to Strongest
The Titan Shifters are the strongest characters in Attack on Titan, and here's a breakdown of how their powers rank from weakest to strongest.
Attack on Titan is one of the biggest anime of the past decade, thanks to its great animation, dynamic character writing, and engaging mystery plot, and even with both the anime and manga finished, there are few franchises with more popularity and relevancy. Attack on Titan not only defined modern anime, but was essentially the reason WIT Studio was created, and there’s no better contender for their best anime.
