Zombie movies are one of the most popular subgenres of horror and rarely seem to have survivors, unlike slasher flicks that have the famed final girls, or paranormal movies that usually have at least one surviving protagonist. In zombie films, the heroes almost always die in a crazed, cannibalistic apocalypse

On the rare occasion that there are survivors in zombie films, they are almost always average everymen who wouldn't seem capable of surviving such ordeals in real life. For example, in Train to Busan, the entire plot of the film revolves around a father trying to survive and protect his daughter during the initial outbreak. Many survivors in zombie films go through extreme lengths to survive, such as hiding in shopping malls, escaping by boat, or killing any other human who may cause them harm.

In the original film, two of the characters survive and are taken away by helicopter, but, in the remake, an entire group escapes on a yacht, though some footage is later found on a camcorder that reveals the surviving group runs out of supplies and arrives at an island infested with zombies who attack them just before the recording shuts off, leaving their fate ambiguous.

World War Z

World War Z

World War Z is incredibly intense, so much so that the intensity of the world devolving into chaos at the zombie outbreak is actually even more terrifying than the zombie outbreak itself. One of the most iconic scenes in this movie is the scene of all the zombies piling on top of each other to overcome a massive wall around a city in order to breakthrough. The zombies may not be intelligent by human standards, but they start adapting and learning how to adapt to new things.
