The private investigator Kim (Rhea Seehorn) and Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) hired in Season 5 Episode 5 of Breaking Bad characters than ever before. From major characters like Mike (Jonathan Banks) and Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) to smaller players like sca (Tina Parker) and Huell (Lavell Crawford), it seems like anyone could end up in a future episode.

Season 5, episode 5, "Dedicado a Max," featured Kim and Jimmy turning to a private investigator to help them dig up some dirt on one of Kim's clients, Kevin Wachtell (Rex Linn), in an attempt to stop him from building a branch of the Mesa Verde bank on the land of a stubborn old man living in the New Mexico desert. Although Kim is initially skeptical, Jimmy convinces her to go down a less clean path, and they seek out the assistance of Steven Ogg's Sobchack, who was last seen on the show getting beat up by Mike in season one

However, there's evidence that Sobchack may not have been the initial pick for the private eye Kim and Jimmy went to for help. It's possible that the original plan was for the private investigator to be Kuby, Bill Burr's character from Breaking Bad who could often be found working with Huell to do Saul Goodman's dirty work. From a conversation on the Better Call Saul Insider Podcast and an old interview with Burr himself, Kuby could have been the original character Jimmy turned to.

During an interview on the Rich Eisen Show, Bill Burr discussed his fan-favorite character Kuby and spoke about how he was initially set to appear in season 5. According to Burr, he had plans to appear on the show, but when a personal tragedy came up, he decided to forgo his appearance and spend time with his loved ones. Burr also noted that it was an unfortunate situation because he credits Better Call Saul co-creator Vince Gilligan with jump-starting his acting career.

Burr confirmed that he was going to appear in season 5, but why would episode 5 be the most appropriate time? That answer comes via a conversation held on this week's episode of the Better Call Saul Insider Podcast, during which of the crew discuss little known facts and behind-the-scenes details about each episode. On the podcast about "Dedicado a Max," the crew gave props to the episode's writer, Heather Marion, for rewriting the scene with Sobchack after the initial pick for the role fell through.

That Marion originally wrote the scene for a different character, coupled with Burr's conversation with Rich Eisen about having to drop out of an appearance, seems to confirm that Kuby was originally planned to be the private eye whom Kim and Jimmy turn to for help in "Dedicado a Max." Although Kuby couldn't appear this season, there's always hope that he may re-appear in a future episode of Better Call Saul.
