In the first three seasons of older brother Chuck. Chuck is a successful lawyer who took a break from practicing because of his supposed allergy to electromagnetism.
Chuck is one of the most tragic yet talkative and popular as him. His inferiority complex and hatred made him deteriorate mentally and physically. He just kept on getting worse and worse, which ultimately led to his untimely death.
He Never Told Jimmy Their Mother's Dying Words
In "Klick," Jimmy and Chuck's mother is seen dying in a flashback sequence. Jimmy goes out of the room at some point, trying to find some food for his devastated brother. When he leaves, their mother wakes up. She ignores Chuck and only cries out for Jimmy. Then, she es away.
By the time Jimmy is back, it's too late. When he asked his brother if she had any last words, Chuck lied. Jimmy never found out about it because Chuck was so jealous.
He Told Jimmy He Is Not A Real Lawyer
After Jimmy decided to leave his hustling days in Cicero behind, he enrolled into an online university and become a lawyer, just like his big brother. He worked in HHM's mail room and studied on the side without Chuck knowing. When he finally graduated, he came to Chuck in hopes to get some words of recognition.
Instead, Chuck told him: "Slippin' Jimmy with a law degree is like a chimp with a machine gun!" That was a very cruel thing to say to your own brother.
He Sabotaged Jimmy's Future At HHM
Jimmy was hoping that with his new law degree, he could get a promotion. Howard recognized Jimmy as a good worker and even called him "Charlie Hustle." But Chuck couldn't bare seeing his brother moving up in the world while he was stuck. It's as if he wanted him to stay a conman so he could continue being superior.
Ultimately, it was Chuck who prevented Jimmy from moving up in HHM and what is even worse, he made Howard deliver the bad news.
He Isn't Thankful To Jimmy
Jimmy did a lot of nice things for his brother, but Chuck took it all for granted. Jimmy delivered him his favorite newspapers, ice and food, which took quite a lot of his time. When Jimmy decides to stop helping him, he tells Howard to send someone over and explains what his brother needs delivered.
Howard couldn't believe his own ears. He realized that Jimmy sacrificed much of his personal life for him and never got any gratitude for it.
He Attacked His Ex-Wife
Chuck used to be married to a professional violinist Rebecca. In a flashback, Jimmy visits the couple and Chuck is obviously ashamed of his younger brother. His inferiority complex runs really deep; so much so that he can't stand his wife laughing at Jimmy's jokes.
In "Chicanery," Rebecca visits Chuck, but he told her nothing of his illness. When her phone rings, he knocks it out of her hands instead of telling her to simply leave the room.
He Meddles With Jimmy's Relationship With Kim
Chuck is unstoppable in his hatred towards his brother. After Kim stood up for Jimmy at HHM, she is sent to doc review to do work that is at this point in her career beneath her. She runs into Chuck one morning, and he uses their time together to warn her against Jimmy.
While it's true that Kim should have been less trusting around Jimmy especially given how he turns out in the end, she is a grown woman who can make her own decisions.
He Tapes Jimmy's Confession
After Jimmy tampers with Mesa Verde documents to take the client from HHM and thus give it back to Kim, Chuck feels humiliated. He refused to it he made a mistake on the documents because it's true; Jimmy changed the numbers behind his back.
He feigns sickness and mental deterioration in order to emotionally pressure Jimmy into itting he truly did commit a felony. He did it because he couldn't bear seeing his brother in such a poor state, but it was all just a show. Chuck, too, had a bit of a con man in him.
He Loses His Calm In Front Of A Judge
Because of the felony, Jimmy was disbarred - that was Chuck's plan all along. When he goes to trial, Chuck stands in as a key witness and tries to paint a picture of Jimmy the way he sees him. With Kim's help, Jimmy prepared an elaborate scheme that proved that Chuck was mentally unstable.
When Chuck realizes what everyone thinks of him, how everyone pities him and how the tables have turned, he loses it completely and goes on a horrible rant about how horrible Jimmy is. This didn't help his case in any way.
He Always Denies That His Disease Is Psychosomatic
Chuck is an incredibly intelligent man, yet lacks critical thinking when it comes to assessing his own so-called allergy to electromagnetism. He doesn't think it is weird that he can power through the radiation only when it serves him.
For example, when he went to catch his neighbor's newspaper or when he made a call from Jimmy's phone while was sleeping.
He Commits Suicide
Chuck could not have fallen any lower, so he decided he would end his life. He kicks over a lantern so that his whole house burns down. He didn't give anyone any closure, which left Jimmy and Howard both feeling guilty.
His last words to Jimmy were that he never really cared about him. These words will surely hunt Jimmy for the rest of his life.
