Better Call Saul, the prequel series to Breaking Bad, has perhaps served up even more shocking moments than the original series ever did. Each season seems to push these characters further with the stakes feeling larger and larger.
While deaths, accidents, and large emotional moments all featured in the list, there's a number of other shocking moments that fans just would never be able to for. Here are ten of the most unexpected and surprising moments from the show.
Ziegler's Death
Ziegler and Mike became good friends over the course of a few episodes. However, Ziegler, the architect of Gus's criminal laboratory, was getting tired of being away from his home and his family and tried to return to them. Unfortunately, that wasn't good enough for the crime lord Gus, and he had him killed. Mike, who had been such a good friend with Werner, had to pull the trigger in order to keep his own life and job intact.
Tuco's Outburst
Tuco was a key player early into this show, demonstrating that the series would have some crossovers with Breaking Bad. The character is known to be pretty erratic and this was demonstrated well in the desert. When it looked like Saul or one of the lads he was involved with could be killed, there was a tense moment. Tuco ended up letting them off with some broken legs in a scene that was brutal to watch.
Gale's Cameo
Gale was a character that fans never thought would appear again. He was, of course, shot in the head by Jesse, but this is a prequel series, after all. Normally, a cameo like this gets leaked ahead of time.
Characters like Gus or Hank were even teased ahead of time. Gale's appearance was a great piece of continuity, but it was also a big surprise for a show that manages to keep fans on their toes at every moment.
Lalo's Victory
The final episode of the last season saw Nacho set up an ambush on Lalo. He managed to shoot his way out of it, though, in an intense showdown. It's amazing how he managed to defy the odds and become the last man standing.
Fans certainly held their breath throughout the confrontation, and his survival has much larger consequences for the final season of the show. It was certainly a major surprise that he survived the assassination attempt.
Saul's Ambush
Saul has also experienced an ambush in the last season. After picking up $2 million from the Salamanca Cousins, Saul was pulled over by another gang and asked to give up the cast. He would have died had Mike not interfered.
What followed was a series of truly shocking events. From a major shootout to a long walk through the desert that eventually led to Saul drinking his own pee. Needless to say, the scene held a lot of tension.
Jimmy's Name Change
Jimmy was always going to change his name, and that wasn't very shocking. What was surprising was the manner in which he made that decision. After faking his case for his love of his brother and getting reinstated, he made a heartless gesture.
He claimed he'd faked all his emotion and dropped his birth name altogether, deciding to practice law as Saul Goodman instead. It was the fall of a good man in every respect and a game-changing moment.
Chuck's Death
Chuck was slowly losing his mind after the events that took place with Jimmy. His relationship with his brother had completely fallen apart. Despite this, we didn't expect the tragic fate that would fall upon him. With a fire lamp knocking over, Chuck's house caught fire, killing him. It's an emotional moment, and one that no one quite thought would happen in this way.
Kim's Car Crash
Kim started going into a downward spiral that was sure to end in disaster. Unfortunately for her, it did, and the result of her tiredness, lack of focus, and stretching herself too thin was a car accident.
She managed to survive, but it massively set her back, and it was a moment that fans assumed would lead to her demise. Perhaps it was foreshadowing of what was to come, though.
Hector's Poisoning
Hector was always going to end up in a wheelchair, it was just unclear how he would get to that stage. The surprising aspect of this story is that it was Nacho who actually put him in the situation. By swapping out the pills, Nacho essentially poisoned Hector's body, causing him to have a stroke. It's a moment that keeps coming back to haunt Nacho due to the severe consequences.
Lalo's Intrusion
One of the most shocking and tense moments of the season that has just finished is Lalo's intrusion into Jimmy and Kim's home. With a gun at the ready, he questioned Saul on what happened during the pickup. What was more shocking was when Kim managed to talk Lalo down and actually get him to leave. Her fearless attitude demonstrated the changing nature of the character.
