The Big Bang Theory broke all sorts of records and won all sorts of awards during its twelve successful series starting in 2007. Following a group of scientists and nerds as they navigate through their professional and romantic lives in the city of Pasadena, as well as introducing them to a new neighbor and aspiring actress Penny.
In the pilot, fans were introduced to the main core of the show, Penny, Leonard, and Sheldon, and were automatically in love with them. While many fans claim to know every little detail about the characters, from their jobs to their relationships, to their unique outfits, there are still some things that slip through the cracks, especially considering the very first episode was over thirteen years ago now.
Sheldon's Spot
Sheldon Cooper is one of the main characters of the series and absolutely steals the show from minute one. He's a brilliant Nobel prize-winning Physicist, a sometimes unbearable boyfriend and husband to Amy, an irritating and controlling friend, and completely oblivious to all forms of sarcasm. And it's fair to say that fans were given a glimpse of his annoying habits from the pilot episode.
One of his most annoying habits is his special spot on the sofa. In his apartment, Sheldon has his very own spot and he won't let anyone else sit there other than himself. So when their new neighbor Penny sits there over lunch, Sheldon is definitely not impressed and he goes on to explain why the temperature, airflow, and position make it the perfect spot.
Planning their future
When Leonard first sees Penny, he thinks it's love at first sight, and while it may have been for him, most fans knew that it was definitely unreciprocated at this early stage. So, over the course of this episode, Leonard spends his time trying to impress his new crush, from letting her use his shower, inviting her over for lunch, and even offering to get her TV back from her ex Kurt.
As the episode unfolds, and Leonard's feelings only grow stronger, Leonard already starts planning their future together, claiming that they will have smart and beautiful children. Thankfully, Sheldon puts him in his place telling him that their children are also "not to mention, imaginary."
Klingon Boggle
We knew the boys were extremely geeky and slightly odd when we first saw the four of them hanging out together in the first episode. When roommates Leonard and Sheldon were ed by fellow scientist and engineer Raj and Howard respectively, the gang showed us exactly what they like to spend their time doing.
Watching movies, reading comics, arguing about movies, arguing about comics, but they also introduce us to one of their very weird games, called Klingon Boggle. This is essentially boggle but instead of using a human language, they decide to use the Star Trek language Klingon.
Penny's Ex Kurt
Penny went through some real jerks like Doug, Mike, and the very first boyfriend we meet Kurt. Kurt is a typical jock and all-around horrible person. He's condescending, rude, and acts like an idiot towards Leonard and Sheldon when they try to get Penny's TV back in the pilot.
Thankfully after this initial meeting, Kurt only has a couple of very minor appearances later in the series, and never gets serious again with Penny, which after their four years of dating, was a massive relief for fans and especially for Leonard's dreams.
North Korean Spy
Just like Penny, Leonard also had quite a few romances in the show before settling down with Penny later on. Of all the nerds, however, it's fair to say Leonard had a relatively successful time with women. He had a few flings with some great girls like Alice and Leslie Winkle, but he also had some more serious, long-term relationships for example Priya, and of course the will they won't they-couple of the show Penny and himself.
One fling, who thankfully we only ever saw through flashbacks, was Joyce Kim, who prior to the show, had been with Leonard for around a month, and turned out to be a North Korean spy gathering intelligence on Leonard's latest project involving rocket fuel. We're glad Leonard got out of that one.
Pants-Less
As previously mentioned, Kurt was an absolute jerk, especially when it came to his treatment of skinny nerds like Leonard and Sheldon, and their first encounter didn't go well for the two of them in the first episode. Bringing them back to their school days, and the days of big, tall bullies, Kurt decides that in return for them simply asking for Penny's TV back, he would steal their pants.
So, as a result, Sheldon and Leonard returned to their apartment embarrassed, deflated, and pants-less. Not a great opportunity for Leonard to impress his new crush, but that isn't enough to stop Leonard from pursuing his dream girl.
The Car Rides
As seen throughout the entirety of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon and Leonard are truly best friends. Yes, they bicker, they argue, and yes Sheldon does constantly get on Leonard's nerves, and in return, Leonard does seem to appear like he doesn't care about him whatsoever, but it's the little things that count with these two.
Despite his irritating habits, Sheldon has repeatedly saved Leonard from certain occasions, for example throwing his rocket into the elevator and saving the entire apartment building. Leonard on the other hand shows his friendship to Sheldon in everyday things, and one of them is driving him into work every day, which we already get to see in the very first episode.
Sperm Bank
Completely unlike the usual Sheldon fans became accustomed to, in the first episode, Leonard takes him to a sperm bank, where the pair plan to sell their sperm in order to get some extra cash and, according to Sheldon, on his high IQ genes. And to be fair to him, the sperm bank was a special high IQ one, but as they later found out, they couldn't guarantee that their sperm would produce high IQ off-spring.
And luckily, after that disappointing news, they opted out of the donation, which would have been pretty weird considering how Sheldon refuses to ever mention anything sexual throughout many seasons and takes it extremely slow when getting closer to Amy.
Howard As The Lady's Man
With his weird, colorful outfits, his bowl-cut hair, and sarcastic humor, Howard is definitely no lady's man, even though he strongly believes he is. In fact, this has led to some hilarious and awkward moments with girls later in the show, the Mars rover incident with Stephanie? Or his first date with Bernadette?
The writers gave us clues about this when he immediately tried to hit on Penny as soon as he arrived. Fortunately, Howard did manage to settle down with Bernie, becoming way less creepy, and nothing romantic ever happened between him and Penny.
Raj's Selective Mutism
Raj was one of the more unfortunate characters in the show, and although at some points it was his awkwardness and hopeless romantic antics that led to it, he was quite unlucky in of his love life. He had failed romances with Emily, Lucy among a couple more, and was the only main character left without a significant other by the show's finale.
One of the main reasons for his awkwardness, was his inability to talk to girls in the early seasons unless of course, he was drunk. In fact, when we think all the way back to the first episode, Raj didn't even speak to Penny, which definitely led to some awkward silences.
