Warning: contains spoilers for Big Game #5!In the perfect next chapter of his story, Kick-Ass' vigilante 'hero' Dave Lizewski just gained superpowers, saving the world and winning worldwide acclaim after his adventures - which began in 2008 - are revealed to have permanently reshaped reality. A star of self-titled comics and films, Kick-Ass was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the 2010 film adaptation.
In Big Game #5, the massive crossover event reaches its end, as Wesley Gibson's Killer (the protagonist of Wanted) takes the fight to the heroes, who have been rescued from their prior deaths by Kick-Ass' Hit-Girl. Gibson's alliance with Diabolos the Sorcerer creates a loophole, allowing the Magic Order to involve themselves in the hero vs villain war. In an effort to tip the scales in the heroes' favor, The Magic Order's Cordelia Moonstone gifts Dave powers - but it doesn't stop there.
At the end of the comic, Kick-Ass is noticed by the superteam known as the Ambassadors, who have been looking for a member to represent America in their international coalition. Given his part in the battle against Gibson's forces, Dave is chosen for the role, getting a new costume that imbues him with the ability to superpowers.
Previously, Kick-Ass' only 'power' was a reduced sensitivity to pain due to nerve damage, though this didn't make him any more resistant to actual injury.

Millarverse's Big Game Introduces a Visually Gorgeous New Take on Superman's Heat Vision
Mark Millar's Big Game limited series has featured many stunning deaths, but one character's demise in particular was tragically beautiful.
Kick-Ass s the Ambassadors as a True Superhero
Dave Saved the World from Supervillains by Reshaping Reality
In Millarverse's shared universe, superheroes were once a fact of life, but were killed off by a supervillain coalition known as the Fraternity, who also wiped the population's memories of their existence. Over the last decade of comics, more and more superheroes have cropped up in the modern day, with each tracing their roots back to Kick-Ass' initial decision to replicate the heroes from his comic books (in Millar and John Romita Jr.'s Kick-Ass.)
Dave Lizewski was only the first Kick-Ass - Patience Lee took up the mantle in Kick-Ass: The New Girl, while his friend Todd Haynes became the derivative vigilante Ass-Kicker.
Now, Cordelia Moonstone explains that Dave's decision altered reality, allowing the idea of real-life superheroes to once again spread. While the Fraternity's Wesley Gibson and psychopathic killer Nemesis tried to wipe them out, this issue sees the heroes triumph thanks to a time-travel assist from ultra-competent hero Hit-Girl. Throughout the series, Dave has been depicted as a sad sack - lacking direction in life, and constantly missing out on major hero gatherings and fights. However, Big Game was just holding him in reserve for the final act, where he convinced the Magic Order that they were technically permitted to get involved, and gained the power to destroy the Fraternity.
Look for Kick-Ass in Future Issues of The Ambassadors
Millarverse's Epic Crossover Gives Kick-Ass Renewed Relevance
Launching in 2008, Kick-Ass offered a deeply cynical look at an ascended fanboy who became a real-life superhero, and all the darkness, pain, and triumph that would invite. Dave Lizewski has been brutally hurt, lost the people he loved, and lived in obscurity, but now - due to his commitment to helping others, and his unyielding need to realize his dreams - Kick-Ass is finally a true superhero, and will likely be appearing in future volumes of The Ambassadors in his new role.
Big Game #5 is available now from Millarworld.
