Jujutsu Kaisen's manga has officially ended as of September 30, 2024, after reigning as one of the world's most loved manga series for years. Now that the acclaimed series is over, fans can say with certainty that there was never a dull moment in Jujutsu Kaisen. The shonen series always kept viewers on their toes, tossing out major character deaths and plot twists left and right.

From killing the fan-favorite strongest sorcerer of all time, Gojo Satoru, to Geto's horrific downfall into villainy, Gege Akutami always kept his manga fresh and compelling by throwing in scenes that made fans' jaws drop. Even though fighting evil cursed spirits is bound to result in casualties and losses, that does not make the series' twists and turns any less surprising. Months after the series' ending, these astonishing plot points still remain unforgettable in fans' minds.

10 Toji and Gojo’s First Fight

Gojo Cheated Death by Using His Reverse Cursed Technique To Survive a Fatal Blow

Toji Fushiguro and Gojo Satoru first fought when Gojo was only a teenager attending Jujutsu High. Toji cornered Gojo, on orders to kill the young sorcerer. The assassin "Sorcerer Killer" lived up to his nickname, stabbing Gojo right through the chest in a grisly display.

Gojo seemed to be dead, but the real twist in this scene occurred after the sorcerer's supposed "murder." Gojo's Reverse Cursed Technique allowed him to rise up again unscathed from the serious injury. As he ascended into a golden sky, declaring himself "the Honored One," even Toji himself could not help but be astounded.

9 Mahito Manipulating Junpei

Mahito Earned Junpei’s Trust Only to Transfigure Him Beyond Recognition in Front of Yuji

The most stunning example of just how wicked and twisted the Cursed Spirit Mahito can be occurred in season one. He discovered a young boy named Junpei who felt rejected by society and was being harshly bullied. Rather than help the vulnerable teenager, Mahito took advantage of him at his lowest moment, in the most despicable way.

Mahito convinced Junpei he was looking out for him and making him stronger. Horrifically, viewers helplessly watched as Junpei fell right into Mahito's evil trap. Right as things were looking up for Junpei, and he found his first genuine friend in Yuji Itadori, Mahito transfigured Junpei right in front of Yuji, in a tear-jerking scene that is one of Jujutsu Kaisen's most famously sad.

The Realization That He and Yuji Are Brothers Put Choso in a Shocked Daze

Choso had a bone to pick with Yuji because he was responsible for the deaths of Choso's brothers, Kechizu and Eso. Choso ed forces with Mahito, Kenjaku, Jogo, and the other Cursed Spirits, but not out of a desire to take down humanity, he merely wanted to get payback for the loss of his brothers' lives. When he cornered Yuji though, he made a discovery that nearly stopped his heart.

One Jujutsu Kaisen Episode Made Me Finally Understand All the Hype, & Now I'm a Lifelong Fan

As a first-time watcher, I was curious to see what made Jujutus Kaisen truly stand out, and I found it all in one episode.

1

Yuji and Choso are related by blood, making Yuji another one of Choso's brothers. This reveal was as staggering for fans watching as it was for Choso himself. This reveal had a happy ending though, as Choso turned his back on evil and swore to protect his one living brother, Yuji, at all costs.

7 Maki’s Revenge on the Zenin Clan

Mai Died for Maki’s Sake, Even Though They Had Hated Each Other for Years

Sadly, Maki Zenin has suffered more loss, neglect, death, and pain than most characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. Because of her lack of Cursed Energy, the clan she was raised in, the Zenin clan, mistreated her from birth. Maki worked as hard as possible to succeed in spite of this shortcoming, and made a name for herself in the sorcerer world even with no CE.

After leaving the clan, Maki swore she would never go back, but a personal tragedy forced her to. Maki killed her own father and the other clan after her sister, Mai, died to protect Maki. Even though the sisters had been in a rivalry of hatred for years, Mai's surprising sacrifice proved the enduring love between them in spite of their grudges towards each other.

6 Nobara’s Death

In a Split Second, One of Jujutsu Kaisen’s Most Promising Sorcerers Was Killed by Mahito

One of the most devastating moments in the Shibuya Incident arc involves a sorcerer that no one expected to die so soon. Nobara Kugisaki, one of Yuji's classmates at Jujutsu High, encountered the Cursed Spirit, Mahito, and did not survive. She dealt a few powerful blows, but in the end, Mahito was able to touch her and transfigure her.

particularly shocking because it happened so suddenly. In seemingly a split second, Mahito grabbed her cheek and she fell to the ground in a nauseating pool of blood. Nobara was so young and full of potential, and fans still mourn her unexpected death to this day.

5 Geto’s Turn to Evil

When Geto Began Killing Non-Sorcerers Instead of Curses, His Former Best Friend, Gojo, Was Forced To Kill Him

At the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, Geto was one of the good guys, and Gojo's best friend. The inseparable duo attended Jujutsu High together and exorcised curses side-by-side, making the world a safer place. Eventually, Geto hit his physical and mental limit, and decided to begin killing non-sorcerers instead of curses.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Reveals The Heroic Roots Of Its Main Villain

Jujutsu Kaisen's season 2 premiere featured many surprises, most notably showing a heroic version of the despicable villain Suguru Geto.

This surprising shift from hero to villain caught Jujutsu Kaisen viewers off guard, as Geto did the unspeakable and murdered an entire village of people. He went on to rule a cult and convince others to his mission of wiping out non-sorcerers, despite Gojo's pleas begging him to change his mind. He eventually died at Gojo's hands, which was one of the most traumatic twists in the series.

4 Kenjaku Revealing Himself in Geto’s Body

Kenjaku’s Manipulation of Geto’s Body Was So Shocking, It Even Caught Gojo off Guard

When Geto died, viewers might have assumed that would be the last time they would see the former Jujutsu sorcerer. Astoundingly, Geto did return, but not in the way anyone anticipated. Curse , Kenjaku, one of the series' strongest villains, used Geto's body as a vessel.

The telltale forehead stitching on Geto's body is there because Kenjaku gruesomely cut open his head to place his own brain inside. The big reveal of Geto's true identity occurred during the Shibuya Incident arc, blowing not just the audience away, but Gojo Satoru himself. Gojo was so caught off guard that Kenjaku even managed to seal him in the Prison Realm.

3 Sukuna Taking Over Megumi’s Body

Sukuna Found a New Host Body by Taking Control of Megumi Fushiguro

In the same way Kenjaku controlled Geto's body, the Cursed Spirit Sukuna also uses humans as host bodies to carry out evil deeds. One of Sukuna's most unforeseen actions was when he took control of Jujutsu sorcerer, Megumi's, body. For most of the series, Sukuna laid dormant in Yuji's body, so it was surprising to see him switch vessels suddenly.

At this point in the battle, Megumi was feeling hopeless and weakened, so Sukuna struck while he was at his lowest. This moment was one of the most important and unpredictable twists in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen manga. The scene was also undoubtedly tragic, since Sukuna destroyed Megumi's will to live in order to break him down enough to take over.

2 Nanami’s Death

Nanami’s Final Moments Were Some of the Series’ Most Brutal and Violent

One of the deaths that shook the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom up the most was also one of the most out of the blue. Nobara was not the only victim whose life Mahito claimed; the Cursed Spirit also killed another fan-favorite hero. Nanami Kento, the levelheaded and overtime-hating sorcerer, was murdered by Mahito just as violently as Nobara was, if not more so.

Half of Nanami's body was gorily burnt by Jogo and transfigured by Mahito in front of viewers' eyes. Interestingly, his death scene was juxtaposed with a more peaceful, happy scene of the sorcerer finally enjoying a moment's peace by the seaside. As the heroic Jujutsu sorcerer died gruesomely, he finally lived out his dream Malaysian vacation in his mind, a twist no one could have anticipated.

1 Gojo’s Death

The Strongest Sorcerer of All Time Was Suddenly Killed by the Series’ Most Terrifying Villain

No Jujutsu Kaisen death was as heartbreaking and startling as Gojo Satoru's. Most Jujutsu Kaisen fans assumed the strongest sorcerer was undefeatable and would survive until the end of the story, eventually perhaps taking the Cursed Spirit, Ryomen Sukuna, down himself. This wishful fantasy never came to fruition though, much to the dismay and horror of fans worldwide.
