A staple of the Bill & Ted Face the Music continuing the tradition. While most fans the catchphrases, certain scenes deserve mention for being funny on their own.
As a reminder of the trilogy’s capability in bringing these funny lines, it’s worth checking out the best ones in all of the movies. These exclude the commonly-known one-liners in favor of those quotes that highlight the style of comedy that Bill & Ted movies have perfected.
(Bill): "This Happy Event Makes Deacon His Own Father-In-Law." (Ted): "Not To Mention Making My Dad, His Own Son."
Bill & Ted Face the Music started off with the leads at the wedding of Ted’s younger brother and his former stepmother, who was now marrying his brother. Just like how many things in the Bill & Ted series don’t make sense, this union was a real brain teaser as well.
The duo’s wedding toast left more than a few people confused, as Bill pointed out that this made Ted and Deacon’s dad his own father-in-law, as well as making the old man his own son due to his earlier marriage to the same woman.
(Kelly): "I’ve Been Waiting To Meet You My Whole Life." (Ted): "It Must Be Very Disappointing."
There are movies that haven’t aged well, and the pair themselves were a victim of time, in-universe. After spending two and a half decades trying to come up with the song that would save the world, and failing at it, Ted began having a low opinion of himself.
This is why, when they were greeted by Rufus’ daughter Kelly, Ted immediately thought she wouldn’t be very enthused. To this end, his natural inclination was to believe that Kelly was instantly disappointed by meeting the people who were supposed to save the world.
(Teacher): "Who's Joan Of Arc?" (Ted): "Noah's Wife?"
If fans want to see how the “Keanu is breathtaking memes” started, then they can trace it back to the first film. Here, Ted and Bill were so clueless about history that they came up with the craziest explanations to questions asked of them.
The funny thing is how they figured answers based on association would work, as evidenced by Ted’s answer to who Joan of Arc was. Confusing “Arc” with “Ark,” he figured Noah and Joan had to be married.
"How's It Hanging, Death?"
It’s no wonder that Ted is one of the iconic roles that Keanu Reeves has played, seeing as he had such a chill reaction to any situation. In Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, the pair were killed and sent to the underworld, where they encountered Death himself.
Being the carefree dullards they are, the two didn’t accept the gravity of the situation and figured it was another casual meet-up. Due to this, Ted’s first reaction upon learning of Death’s identity was to ask him how it was hanging.
(Ms. Wardroe): "The Girls Can Play But You Guys Stink!" (Bill): "...Girls Mature Faster Than Guys."
On many occasions, the bonehead mentality of the lead characters surprisingly resulted in articulate responses. Other times, though, they give out answers so ridiculous, it becomes one of the unresolved Bill & Ted questions over what the heck is going on in their minds.
When the organizer of the Battle of the Bands asked Bill and Ted why they thought they would save the world with their talents -- considering how horrible they were compared to their girlfriends -- Bill answered because boys are slower than girls in maturity, figuring this worked in musical skill as well.
"How Is That Stealing If We’re Stealing From Ourselves, Dude?"
The benefit of this pairing is that one can compensate for the stupidity of the other, allowing them to come away with the win. In Bill & Ted Face the Music, they had the idea of nabbing the epic song from their future selves, to which Ted asked if it would be stealing.
Bill argued that it wasn’t, as they would be stealing from themselves, disregarding how he just confirmed that they would still be stealing. Fortunately, Ted was too dumb to pick up on this himself, and the two proceeded to head to the future.
"I Totally Possessed My Dad!"
The Bill & Ted series falls under the stoner comedy genre due to the pair’s habit of acting in such fashion. This was one of the best moments to point out why the films do qualify for the genre. When Bill and Ted returned to Earth as ghosts, neither of them really minded being dead.
In order to send a message to the living, Ted decided to possess his father, which was successful. Unfortunately, he didn’t think to act like his old man and went so far as to acknowledge ghost Bill while happily telling him how he was possessing his own dad.
"Dude, We're In Heaven And We Just Mugged Three People."
After escaping from the underworld with Death, Bill and Ted’s next destination was Heaven, where they wanted to seek an audience with God. Since they had to sneak in, the trio had to resort to mugging people.
This raised some moral questions, though, seeing as they had to commit a crime in Heaven of all places. Even the usually chill Ted had reservations about this, as he had this to say to Bill, who agreed they needed to be quick or they would make Heaven a bad place.
"Be Excellent To Each Other...And Party On, Dudes!
The storyline of the first movie was that the duo had to their history exam, as failing this would mean they wouldn’t be together in the future to create their epic song. After gathering all sorts of historical figures, even these people became more like Bill and Ted.
Among these names was Abraham Lincoln, who ended up quoting Bill and Ted themselves during his speech. While “being excellent” can be interpreted as a wise saying, hearing Abe Lincoln wanting people to party is something fans will only hear in these movies.
(Old Ted To Younger Ted): "The Truth Is I Looked At You And Saw Myself."
The series already had brought old Bill and old Ted for fans to make memes for the future. In this scene, the younger and older pairs acted as if they were different people, forgetting that they were the same.
Here, younger Bill was dumb enough to hug his older counterpart and tell him he’d never forget him. However, the Ted pair was even sillier, as older Ted apologized to the younger one by saying he thought Ted looked too much like himself and was reluctant to open up to him.
