Movies fans can't agree on how to rank the six films post-2020 that have made over $1 billion at the box office so far. Despite some big-budget movies struggling in theaters since the turn of the decade, there have still been multiple films to make well over $1 billion in theaters. These movies include Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: Dominion, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and, most recently, the Barbie movie.
Now, Culture Crave has asked people on Twitter to rank all six movies that have made over $1 billion since 2020.
The post was met with varying lists which rank all the blockbusters in different orders. Check out what respondents had to say below:
Top Gun: Maverick was top 5 at the box office for 15 weeks in a row.
Muks places Barbie at the top of their list. This goes to show how much an impact the recent film has had, and how warranted its success has been.
Unfriendly Neighborhood Comic Guy places Spider-Man: No Way Home at the top of their list. Doing so underscores how the film is still ed as a high-quality entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jack's World puts Avatar: The Way of Water at the top of the list. While many Avatar sequel for its effects, it also told a family-oriented story that could appeal to a wide audience.
Skyward makes it clear they didn't enjoy Jurassic World: Dominion. Out of every film ranked by multiple people, it seems the final Jurassic World film rarely found the top spot.
Why It's So Difficult To Rank Post-2020 Blockbusters
Based on the rankings from moviegoers, it seems no one can agree on what the top billion-dollar movie post-2020 has been. Most rankings seemed to have Top Gun: Maverick and Spider-Man: No Way Home close to the top, and many didn't place Jurassic World: Dominion very high. While these indicate there are trends to what movies people enjoyed the most, the lists were too varied overall to determine which movies were the most highly regarded.
Part of what makes it difficult to rank post-2020 blockbusters is how different many of them are. Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie are comedies, Top Gun: Maverick and Spider-Man: No Way Home are action flicks, and Avatar: The Way of Water and Jurassic World: Dominion embraces science fiction. Preferences for which movies were better likely depend on what genre a person likes more.
Recency may also impact how someone judges a movie, with Barbie possibly standing out to some because it's newer. While Barbie's trend-breaking $1 billion box office proves the movie's popularity, more time may be necessary to decide where it - and every other more recent release - ranks compared to other high-earning films. Clearly, though, the 2020s have been filled with billion-dollar movies people enjoy and , a trend that will no doubt continue as the decade marches on.
