Though Lewis’ exit from Billions triggered some mild melancholy, friends, family and associates of his character, Bobby Axelrod, have continued to thrive in his absence. In the latest season, most fan-favorite characters were still as good as fans have known them to be.
Orrin Bach
The former law professor serves as the official attorney for Axe Capital throughout the series. Advanced_Doctor2938 feels he is “spinoff material.”
Whether Orrin is “spinoff material” or not could be up for debate, but he sums up the two most important things in the show: money, and loyalty. As a lawyer, Orrin is a role model for those who’d be interested to make it big in the profession as he is on a $1,000-an-hour retainer and has been able to keep a guilty billionaire out of jail. He is extremely loyal to Bobby Axelrod too and always appears to have everything figured out right to the little details
Mike “Wags” Wagner
The stereotypical right-hand man, Wags serves as Axe Capital’s COO for the first 5 seasons. The_Voice_Of_Ricin thinks he has a “weird combination of fanatical loyalty and general depravity.”
“Depravity” is a perfect word to use when talking about Wags since he is just about recreation as he is about work and doesn’t mind doing the weirdest thing in the name of having a good time. Moreover, he can always be counted on to provide some comic relief to dilute the complex financial jargon since most of Wags’ best Billions quotes are full of sarcasm and burns. Furthermore, Wags is a perfect fit for his job as he always tends to know what his boss wants, even going as far as to finish his sentences.
Taylor Mason
Taylor has a stint as the CIO of Axe Capital before going on to form their own company, Taylor Mason Capital. About them, musical_froot_loop says,“ I thought they were very interesting.”
Taylor impresses by analyzing data and making projections better than anyone else. That’s why they easily come up with ideas such as bankrupting Sandicot for a $500 billion gain and minimizing the carbon footprint of private jets. As one of the smartest characters in Billions, they are top among intellectuals, an incredible honor since almost everyone on the show is shown to have a decent IQ.
Dollar Bill Stern
One of the dependable loyal Axe Capital employees, Dollar Bill does everything that’s required of him, even if it means engaging in insider trading. RoderickGunnar wrote, “He is all about the money, even if he doesn’t care to spend it.”
The Redditor accurately points out the modesty, since, in all-things-money, Dollar Bill would rather make than spend. It’s something that has even earned him the nickname, “America’s Cheapest Millionaire.” His dependability is evident from the fact that Axe always relies on him for classified, and often illegal, field missions. And apart from doing his job, he is also a great source of office entertainment. Whether it’s roasting Ben or destroying Spyro’s Porche, Dollar Bill never ceases to entertain.
Chuck Rhoades
Barcelona539 puts it in a simple way: “Chuck is the GOAT.” The New York Attorney General is said to have won 81 insider trading cases throughout ought his career.
Referring to Chuck as the “greatest of all time” isn’t wrong since he has come out on top in all but one feud he has been a part of. He is not exactly one of the most likable Billions characters but he is arguably the most competent. What makes Chuck a fascinating character is that he lives for the thrill. Nothing excites him more than butting heads with others and trying to win.
Bryan Connerty
Connerty first has a stint as the Southern District of New York's Chief of the Securities Fraud Task Force before inheriting the U.S. Attorney job from Chuck. Max_Dobrowski describes him as “one of the few characters who seems to be even remotely plausible in the real world.”
Connerty is indeed not depicted as a super-intelligent individual who churns out dozens of pop culture references and knows every move to make like his friends and associates. That’s undoubtedly how real-life people are. Connerty makes plenty of mistakes such as hunting Chuck blindly, something that lands him in jail, but he learns and grows.
Wendy Rhoades
Axe Capital’s in-house performance coach is always willing to give everyone an ear and offer them sound advice. LumpySpacePrincess6 says, “Wendy's great in every scene she's in.”
Wendy’s composure is enviable. Even when she gets caught up in the middle when her husband and boss are feuding, she manages to stay close to both men without making them doubt her loyalty. At Axe Capital, anyone who es by Wendy’s office always comes out a better person. Wendy doesn’t snub the world of finance either. From shorting Ice Juice stocks to manipulating Axe to give her a raise, Wendy knows what needs to be done to raise her net worth.
Hal
As Axe’s “fixer,” Hal is always brought in to get rid of messes that have suddenly popped up. Redditor brownmagician thinks “his character definitely is a real person in almost every mega-rich person's life.”
In a show about finance, Hal stands out by operating like an intelligence agent. Whether it’s hacking Axe’s calendar to check when he is free or using Israeli spy cameras to monitor competitors, Hal never ceases to impress. Thanks to him. Thanks to his services, Axe has easily gotten the better of rivals and managed to stay out of jail.
Dudley Mafee
Mafee has s lengthy stint as a trader at Ae Capital before moving on to Taylor Mason Capital. Redditor bottomlesspi loves how he is “funny and seems so down to Earth.”
Everyone loves Mafee, that’s why Taylor hires him first when they form their own company. Most importantly, he has a great moral com in a world where everyone has an ends-justifies-means mentality. Among his best moments is refusing to act on a tip that would generate billions in revenue simply because it would destabilize Nigeria’s economy.
Bobby “Axe” Axelrod
The billionaire has had to constantly watch over his shoulder since Chuck is all too eager to bring him down for insider trading. About him, _CharlesR writes, “Hedge fund badass … Titan that brings edge to the table and actually inspires me to be like him.”
As one of the wealthiest Billions characters, Axe drags all the billionaire stereotypes with him but that isn’t such a bad thing. Hardly any other TV character makes being rich look as cool as he does. But what’s truly remarkable about him is how he always finds a way out whenever he’s been cornered by Chuck. Axe always slips away, something he does right until his character exits the show.
