Summary
- Billions season 8 is not happening, but the universe expands with four spin-offs in the works.
- Despite excellent reviews and ratings, the showrunners felt that seven seasons were right for Billions.
- Original cast may not return for the spin-offs, but some characters' stories are left open for potential appearances.
season 1 premiered in January 2016 and lasted for seven seasons, finally coming to a close on October 29th, 2023. The show ended with an excellent 87% overall on Rotten Tomatoes and a satisfying wrap-up to the series' many storylines.
Season 7 of Billion sees the return of Axe after he was absent from the show in season 6, exiled to Switzerland to avoid prosecution. It was also a convenient excuse for Billions as the actor wanted to spend more time with his family in England. However, he's back in season 7, and with the help of former adversary Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti), takes down Mike Prince (Corey Stoll), once again resuming possession of his fund. It's an enjoyable and complete ending to the show that leaves the door open for spinoffs.

Brian Koppelman, David Levien, and Andrew Ross Sorkin created Billions and served as showrunners. In an interview with the 92nd Street Y, Koppelman, Levien, and Beth Schacter, who came on as a showrunner in season 5, discussed the series and their thoughts on the final season. When asked about season 8, Koppelman said:
"But Showtime, I’ll say… We’re done now, there’s no reason to, Showtime’s been incredibly ive the entire time of the show, and right now, the we’ve had has been great."
Both the creators and studio appear to be happy with how the series ended, and Axe's story appears to be good and over now.
Four Billions Spinoffs Confirmed To Be In The Works
Billions: Miami, Billions: London, Millions, & Trillions
Despite Billions season 8 being a non-starter, the universe is expected to continue in four confirmed spin-offs, which all have titles and plotlines (via THR). There is Billions: Miami, which deals with the world of luxury aviation sales, Billions: London, set in the English financial world, Millions, which will depict young professionals looking to make their wealth, and Trillions, which will be about the very richest people in the world. Koppelman and Levien said:
"We remain fascinated by people whose ambition is boundless and who think the laws of civilization and nature don’t apply to them."
Each series is expected to have the same Machiavellian maneuvering, sharp dialogue, and intriguing plot of the original show.

Could The Billions Cast Appear In The Spinoffs?
No One From The Cast Has Talked About The Sequels
There has been no news on whether any of the original cast will be involved in the Billions spinoffs, and no actors have released statements about revisiting the fictional universe. Still, the show left many characters' stories open for their return. Chuck's arc felt complete at the show's end, finally catching his man and finding a peaceful relationship with his family and ex-wife, so Giamatti likely wouldn't return.
Meanwhile, Axe is back at the top of his game and could very well be one of the richest people in the world at the start of Trillions. Mike Prince is possible, as he told Axe he would be back to get his revenge, so he could pop up in any of the new shows.
Breakout star Asia Kate Dillon plays Taylor Mason in Billions, a young analyst who proves themselves to be exceptionally brilliant. They even strike out on their own at one point, though they fail in the endeavor and return to Axe. Taylor could be a big part of Millions, and the series could focus on their attempts to once again begin their own firm.
Did Billions Have A Satisfying Ending?
The Creators Said They Weighed The Storylines With The Goodbyes
Billions had a fitting ending, and it was one that left no room for more stories in that specific world without retreading what the show had already accomplished. Axe rose to the top of the world and ended up being knocked off his perch. He then returned to help knock his successor off when he proved to be despicable and found an ally in the man who was trying to take him down. By the end, Axe and Chuck buried the hatchet, and Prince crashed and burned.
Despite its popularity and critical acclaim, Billions was never nominated for an Emmy.
It was, if anything, a satisfying ending for the Showtime series. Chuck reclaims his job at SDNY; Axe revives his hedge fund; Taylor Mason leaves the world of finance for philanthropy. Even more, Prince lost out on his presidential aspirations and left without most of his wealth. Sure, there could be more stories in the future, but what could happen that hasn't already been done?
"We certainly never felt like more than seven seasons was the right answer," Brian Koppelman said (via The Ringer). David Levien agreed, saying, "We wanted to have a good resolution for so many different characters... That’s what we spent the most time on: balancing in the final episode how to unfurl the big plot moves, and filtering in all of the more emotional stuff." The final Billions season ended with a 67% Rotten Tomatoes score, the lowest of its run, but the creators felt everyone got their proper sendoff.

Billions is a drama series created for Showtime that follows hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod's quest to accumulate power and wealth, often leading him to utilize unscrupulous tactics. The series is based on several real-world cases featuring dramatizations and embellishments for entertainment purposes.
