While promoting Bird Box Barcelona, producer Chris Morgan ushered in Bird Box 3 news (via Entertainment Weekly). Morgan explained, "Malorie's journey was just the first chapter of this global, apocalyptic event. As we were developing the original film, we often discussed what would be happening at the same time in different countries around the world." This hints at more localized spinoffs leading to the Bird Box franchise becoming something of an anthology series.
Bird Box Barcelona reportedly takes place at the exact same time as Bird Box, Morgan is teasing several other movies set across Europe or even other continents that are all interquels of one another. Morgan added, "During this extinction-level event for humanity, how would families in Europe, Asia, Africa respond to the mysterious creatures' sudden appearance around the globe? What unique challenges would people face based on their geography, culture, their politics?"
Bird Box 3 Is Not Confirmed
The threequel isn't confirmed and there's currently no Bird Box 3 release date. The original Bird Box was a viral sensation, and it was Red Notice was released, thanks to several shots of the movie becoming memes. That meant a sequel was inevitable. However, the first movie's success only comes with so much goodwill, and Bird Box Barcelona will likely have to be a hit for Netflix to greenlight Bird Box 3.
Bird Box 3 Cast
Just like Bird Box Barcelona, Bird Box 3 will likely have a brand-new cast of actors that never appeared in the predecessors. The Bird Box Barcelona cast is full of Native Spanish-speaking actors, so wherever the third movie takes place, the Bird Box 3 cast will likely be local actors too. However, the author of the original Bird Box novel wrote a sequel called Malorie, which continues the story of the Bird Box protagonist (Sandra Bullock). In that respect, there's a small chance Bird Box 3 could return to the original story. It seems like the franchise is heading in a new globe-trotting anthology direction, but if Bird Box Barcelona isn't successful, bringing back Bullock could be a solution.

It seems like the producers of the franchise want to continue making Bird Box movies that take place at the exact same time as one another and follow very different survivalists.
