Spoiler warning: This article contains spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Inhumans from Marvel Comics. Anson Mount reprises his role from the ABC television series, playing the Earth-838 version of the character. This Black Bolt meets an untimely and shocking end, but it's far from over for Black Bolt in the MCU. In fact, it's only just the beginning for this iconic character.
The next place Black Bolt appears in the MCU likely comes in a series or movie that connects to the legacy of the Inhumans. That includes a lot of MCU content, though the details may not line up exactly as comic book fans imagine. Black Bolt's importance in Marvel Universe lore ensures it won't be too long before he returns in Earth-616 to play a key role in the future of the MCU.
Ms. Marvel counts among the most likely places Black Bolt appears next in the MCU. That comes with some caveats, though. Early reveals about the series indicate the origin of Kamala Khan differs from the comics, where she gained powers from the Terrigen Mists.
The Terrigen Mists provide the Inhumans with their superhuman powers. Black Bolt still appears if the MCU Ms. Marvel's origin goes cosmic in any way. Ms. Marvel shares a lot of great moments with the Inhumans in the comics, making it hard to see a clean break in the MCU.
The Marvels
If Black Bolt does play some role in Ms. Marvel then his next MCU appearance may also come in The Marvels. Kamala Khan s forces with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau in the sequel, which may involve the Inhumans in some form.
The Inhumans rank among the most powerful cosmic beings in the Marvel Universe and it makes sense that they play some role in the interstellar adventure of the next movie. Black Bolt leads the way if they do.
Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four MCU movie a likely place for Black Bolt to appear again.
The Inhumans initially appear as antagonists of the Fantastic Four and may play a similar role in the movie. Depending on the approach to the story, Black Bolt and Reed Richards may serve on an Earth-616 Illuminati as they did on Earth-838.
The X-Men
Black Bolt makes his Earth-616 MCU debut in the X-Men movie if the franchise adapts comic book storylines from the last ten years. The X-Men and Inhumans fought in the comics in X-Men Vs. Inhumans from 2016, where the Terrigen Mists proved dangerous to mutants.
A lot of the conflict between the two stemmed from an editorial decision from Marvel Comics to push the Inhumans to replace the X-Men. This occurred during movie rights issues regarding the X-Men with Fox Studios that are now resolved with Disney's acquisition of the company.
Shang-Chi 2
Many theories exist on the origin of the Ten Rings in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. One possible origin lies with the Inhumans. Wong stated in the movie the rings had no obvious terrestrial origin and that may be a hint the Inhumans produced them.
The Inhumans reside in Attilan, a secret location that most often resides in the Blue Area of the Moon. Advanced Inhuman technology makes sense as the origin of the Ten Rings, and could be a way to link Black Bolt into the MCU in an unexpected way.
Loki Season 2
Earth-838 Black Bolt dies confronting the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Other variants stand to appear in Loki season two, where the multiverse remains the central concern after the Sacred Timeline broke in season one.
Black Bolt exists in the MCU multiverse just like other major characters and different variants of Black Bolt could appear as Loki travels to different timelines. Season one featured different actors playing Loki and the same could be true for Black Bolt.
What If..? Season 2
Black Bolt variants also stand to appear in What If..? season two. The Watcher visits infinite universes in the animated series and could potentially visit different realities where the Inhumans and Black Bolt exist.
Black Bolt ranks among the most powerful Inhumans in the comics, though the Scarlet Witch proved the limits to that. What If..? presents the opportunity to visit a reality where the fight between the two powerhouses played out differently.
Eternals 2
The Inhumans and Eternals share different origins but share deep cosmic connections that could lead to Black Bolt making his next MCU appearance in an Eternals sequel. The Kree experimented on early man in Marvel Comics, following the lead of the Celestials.
The Celestials' experiments on ancient humanity led to the advent of the Eternals and Deviants. This connection also likely factors in the MCU, as it adds to the growing tapestry of cosmic forces in live-action like the Kree, Skrulls, and Eternals. The Kree Empire's primary goal sought to create soldiers to fight the Skrulls, but they abandoned the experiment early on.
Secret Invasion
Those cosmic connections make the the best Marvel comic events ever, and the Inhumans the fight.
Black Bolt plays a key role in the comic book as a Skrull replaced him before the invasion, undermining the Inhumans. This revelation threatens the Inhuman Royal Family and this twist could be a way of introducing Black Bolt into Earth-616.
Inhumans Movie
Though the Inhumans ABC television series ended after one season. Anson Mount's return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promises more to come. Black Bolt's next MCU appearance likely comes in an Inhumans movie.
The Inhumans play a major role in Marvel Comics going back to their Silver Age debut. Their legacy hints at a similar importance in the MCU, and despite the early stumbles of the ABC series, the Inhumans likely figure heavily going forward.
