While Naruto took the top spot despite it ending more than 10 years ago, with One Piece lagging behind at second.

There were some no-brainers on the list, such as Hunter X Hunter, My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Pokémon, and more, but the most surprising one was definitely Black Clover, which was the sixth most-watched anime on Netflix last year, racking up 138+ million hours on the platform. True to the underdog theme of the story, Black Clover manages to be more watched than even Jujutsu Kaisen and Dandadan, which are at the height of their popularity, showing that the series still has an audience who can't get enough of it.

The Black Clover anime began on October 3, 2017, and went on for a very successful 170 episodes in the weekly format until it was put on hiatus on March 30, 2021. Due to the fast-paced schedule that pumps out episodes year-round, the anime managed to catch up with the manga, which was one reason the anime took a break. Fortunately, there is now a lot of manga for the anime to adapt, and the series is nearing its end very soon, and there is no better time to start the production.

While the hours watched are very high, Netflix used views as the official data, which would put Black Clover much lower.

Black Clover was not the only Studio Pierrot show put on hiatus or delayed, as Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Naruto's four anniversary episodes, and Kingdom all suffered similar fates. Although the anime catching up was definitely a reason the series was put into hiatus, the studio's messy production that led to the director, Tatsuya Yoshihara, juggling many roles at once, is definitely a key issue. A lot of the episodes were not animated as well as they could have been, and the fillers really hurt the momentum of the story at the time.

Black Clover Will Come Back Stronger Than Ever

With the Spade Kingdom Raid being the next arc in the anime, the series will absolutely be even better than before, given that the content ahead is a step-up from the rest as well as the pay-off to most of the series. All that is left for Pierrot to do the series justice, and given how the Black Clover and Naruto studio changed their production to enhance quality, fans should be much less worried about the future of Black Clover. With Pierrot set to announce their future works in this year's Anime Japan event, the adventures of Asta and the Black Bulls could be coming sooner than expected.
