Warning: contains a preview of Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #3!
The Captain America green with envy.
Ahead of the Black Knight's appearance in the MCU - with Eternals - Marvel have vastly increased the former Avenger's powers, allowing him to tap into his darkest impulses for abilities that rival even Thor. Along with this power boost, Dane has been learning more about his past, with the ghost of Sir Percy of Scandia sharing the history of Camelot, revealed to be a magical kingdom held outside normal time. In the second issue of this series, Percy itted to forging four Ebony items from the Startstone summoned to Earth by Merlin, of which Dane's Ebony Blade is only one.
Now, in a preview of Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #3 shared by Steve Roger's shield has been broken before, and one sufficiently hard blow from Thor was enough to dent the metal. In contrast, the Ebony Shield was enchanted with no such upper limit, which makes it particularly unfortunate that the artifact is now in the possession of Mordred.
Teaming up with Elsa Bloodstone, Dane takes the fight to Mordred in search of the Ebony Chalice, whose draught brings knowledge, and the Ebony Staff, said to those weary with wisdom. The Black Knight's own sword is capable of sundering any matter when sufficiently powered up on Dane's flaws, but not when it's magically deflected from its target. Of course, the Ebony Blade has recently revealed additional powers, allowing the Black Knight to project crackling energy and even resurrecting him when he dies holding it. But while these extra powers may give Dane the power he needs to face Mordred, it's likely the Ebony Shield is likewise hiding some extra abilities that the villain is surely corrupt enough to unlock.
Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #3 - from Si Spurrier, Sergio Davila, Sean Parsons, Arif Prianto, and VC's Cory Petit - promises two titanic battles, as Dane faces off against Mordred and Percy of Scandia battles Thor in a flashback to the adventures of the original Black Knight. How either will end can only be seen when the comic hits retailers May 19, but if Dane wants to save the day, the Black Knight is going to have to succeed where Captain America's countless enemies have failed and figure out a way to beat an enemy holding a truly indestructible shield.
