Black Panther 2 won't recast Chadwick Boseman, confirms Kevin Feige. The highly anticipated sequel to 2018's Black Panther took a tragic turn when Boseman ed away this year after a long battle with colon cancer. Boseman's portrayal of Prince T'Challa was truly iconic, making it incredibly difficult to imagine anyone else possibly being re-cast in Boseman's legendary role.
Marvel did also recently confirm that there were July 2021. With such a terrible loss of such a talented actor, it is vital that Marvel is respectful of the impact Boseman had on fans worldwide when moving forward with the sequel. What better way to truly honor Boseman than with the original cast fans came to know and love?
Thankfully, Marvel does appear to be moving forward with Black Panther 2 in the most respectful way possible. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed during the Disney Investor Day event that Chadwick Boseman would not be recast for Black Panther 2. Ultimately this was the best choice Marvel could've made regarding Black Panther 2. Boseman was truly a hero on and off-screen, even inspiring his co-star Michael B. Jordan to want to live his life as Boseman did: to the fullest, with kindness, integrity, and no regrets. The Black Panther cast and crew didn't even know Boseman was battling cancer during the filming of the first movie, which just makes his performance as T'Challa even more incredible in hindsight. It's definitely wise to focus on the characters introduced in the first film, and it will be interesting to see how they factor into the sequel.
Will Letitia Wright's Princess Shuri take center stage? Or will there be more of a focus on Lupita Nyong'o as T'Challa's love interest, Nakia? Danai Gurira also stole the show as Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje, who served as T'Challa's bodyguards. There were certainly some incredible women introduced in Black Panther, so hopefully they'll get a chance to take center stage in the sequel.
There is simply no replacing Chadwick Boseman. His legacy is immense and there is no doubt he will always be ed, not just for playing T'Challa but for his other incredible roles, as well as for being a genuinely kind person in real life. Black Panther 2 won't be the same without Boseman, but hopefully the sequel can pay him the respectful tribute he deserves when it premieres on July 8, 2022.
