Blade is finally getting the R-rated nemesis he has always deserved. Blade has been Marvel’s preeminent vampire hunter for 50 years, but has always lacked a truly horrifying adversary. All of that has changed now. For Blade’s 50th anniversary, Marvel has given him a new, sinister villain called Adana, who is out for blood in the supernatural corner of the Marvel Universe. In a preview for Blade #3, fans finally get their first look at this new foe, and it is pure nightmare fuel.
Blade #3 is written by Bryan Hill and drawn by Elena Casagrande with Valentina Pinti. The preview opens with Adana, their visage obscured by a hood, getting out of a car. Ordering the driver away, Adana senses a group of mystics hidden nearby. Calling them out, Adana pulls the hood down, revealing they have no skin–it is all muscles. One of the mystics calls Adana “an abomination,” before unleashing a powerful spell upon the villain and then summoning the Sorcerer Supreme. The preview then shifts to Blade, currently being held prisoner by a demonic crime lord in Japan.
Blade Is Going to Have His Hands Full With Adana
The preview ends with Blade getting the upper hand on the crime lord, but in light of Adana's arrival, he may wish to postpone any victory celebrations. The Adana is extremely powerful and gives pause to some of the most powerful magical beings on Earth. The magicians in this preview try to hide themselves from Adana, but the sorcerer is able to see through their disguises, a testament to their power. While the preview does not show how the young magicians fare against Adana, they still put the villain on Doctor Strange’s radar. And now, Adana is on a collision course with Blade as well.
While Adana’s powers make them a formidable foe for Blade, their appearance is downright terrifying. Adana has no skin, and all fans see are muscles. It is an unsettling sight, and when combined with their awesome powers, adds up to the perfect villain for Blade.
While Blade has some recurring foes, such as Dracula and Deacon Frost, they are not as scary-looking as Adana. Blade walks in the darkness and needs a foe who matches that in both appearance and power levels. Adana is the ideal nemesis for Blade, giving him the worthy adversary he always deserved.
Blade #3 is on sale September 27 from Marvel Comics!
