Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War came back with a bang after almost a decade of hiatus, marking a new age for the giant studio Pierrot that produced some of the biggest and most influential anime ever. Furthermore, the studio launched a new separate division that aimed to make Bleach's final arc even better than before, and the producer of the anime reveals the reason for this.

In a documentary about Studio Pierrot by NHK, many aspects of the studio were revealed, such as the work on their hit series Naruto, the studio's approach to a new age of animation, and how Bleach was helping them lead the way. In a segment about Pierrot Films, studio Pierrot's new division, producer Yoshihiro Tominaga revealed that this move was made to eliminate the constraints brought about by time, money, and labor. In order to compete in the globalizing anime industry, Pierrot moved away from the weekly anime that ran year-round to focus on seasonal short anime that produced great results and was able to sell well around the world.

Pierrot's New Approach Made Bleach's Third Cour a Great Success

Pierrot Films Delivered on Its Promises

Tominaga continued to elaborate that Pierrot was not as skilled as other studios when it came to producing high-quality works that were successful. This makes sense given the fact that the year-round production was not sustainable and usually led to fillers and/or bad animation. Bleach, Naruto, Boruto, and Black Clover suffered from this, and as confirmed by the CEO himself, hits like Demon Slayer pushed the studio to reconsider their approach.

They decided to venture into seasonal anime with Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War. After Pierrot Films was launched, Tominaga brought in new staff, increased the production schedule from less than a year to a year and a half, and increased the budget for the anime. The first series to be produced by Pierrot's new division was Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, which is currently the studio's main focus as it aims to rearrange its production. While fans were unsure about how this move would improve the anime, the results spoke for itself and the reception was great, to say the least.

The anime's second season was highly criticized, and the launch of Pierrot Films proved to be fruitful as the difference between cour 2 and cour 3 was like night and day. It seems the team was serious about making the anime as good as possible, and fans let them know how happy they were when the finale was released.

Pierrot's Other Anime Will Be Better Than Ever

Even though r still has one season left, the project was a massive success, and the CEO told fans to look forward to the future of Pierrot. With series like Naruto's anniversary episodes, Boruto part 2, Black Clover, and Akatsuki No Yona still on hiatus, fans of these anime can look forward to the staff and team's new approach to producing the best possible work.
