Warning! Spoilers ahead for Green Lantern #22!One of the the All In initiative continues to shine a light on every corner of the DC Universe, including bringing back one hero that hasn't shined in years.

In Green Lantern #22 by Jeremy Adams and Xermánico, Kyle Rayner, Superboy, and their traveling companion Odyssey are in a Reach Outpost in deep space. While they originally came to plunder the outpost's collection of Nth metal, they take the time to free a man who has been captured by the Reach, who reveals himself to be the very first Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett.

Unfortunately, the Reach arrive and attack the group, who quickly become overwhelmed. To help his new allies, Dan reaches for the scarab Khaji Sha, and transforms into a hero, who calls himself Silver Scarab.

The Very First Blue Beetle Returns to the DC Universe

Dan Garrett is Now the Silver Scarab

Some may recall that before he was a part of the DC Universe, the first Blue Beetle was created for Charlton Comics, before being acquired by DC later. Once Dan was brought over to the DCU, his origin was slightly and Dan became a superhero thanks to a powerful scarab that granted him amazing powers. Dan was eventually succeeded as the Blue Beetle by Ted Kord and later Jaime Reyes, the latter of whom actually used the same scarab that Dan used. Dan ed away and was most recently seen in Dark Nights: Death Metal, fighting alongside other deceased heroes.

Out of all the Blue Beetles, Dan Garret has the least amount of face time and has been established as dead for at least a decade. But assuming this is actually him and not a trick by the Reach, this is an amazing development for the DCU. For the first time, this means every single hero who has been Blue Beetle is alive and active at the same time (even though Dan has taken on the Silver Scarab identity). It’ll be interesting to see what the revival of this Golden Age DC hero will mean for the Blue Beetle legacy.

The Publisher Needs to Capitalize on This Team Now

Dan Garrett trained Ted Kord and Kord has been a major asset to Jaime Reyes’ development as a hero. Having all three around at once for the first time in comic history is a major opportunity that DC absolutely needs to follow up on. Not only will it be great to see Ted and Dan reunite, but it will be fascinating to see what Dan can teach Jaime ing a scarab (and vice versa). Plus, who doesn't want to see the Blue Beetles fighting crime together now that Dan Garrett has made his triumphant return to the DC Universe?
