the understated BoJack Horseman finale. But given the show's popularity with critics and audiences, there have been questions about whether the animated series could ever be revived.
Sedaris addressed those questions during an interview with ComicBook.com, saying "you really want to see them again" and compared the possibility with her previous work on the spoof comedy series Strangers with Candy. In the quote below, the actor mentions the possibility of a reunion show and wonders where the characters would be today:
“You really do want to see them again. Like I felt that way with Strangers With Candy, but you always kind of do want a reunion type show, especially if it took place in a high school because there are 10-year and 20-year anniversaries. But you do want to you invest so much into these characters and you’re always like, ‘Well, where are they?’”
Why BoJack Ended (& Why It Shouldn't Come Back)
There was some surprise when Netflix announced that BoJack would be ending after six seasons, particularly as it was one of Netflix's most acclaimed originals. That surprise was echoed by series creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, who confirmed that it was Netflix's decision to end the show. Although an official reason has never been stated, it's believed that BoJack's end had to do with the fact that the streaming service was moving away from long-running shows in favor of new offerings as they believed it would be more likely to attract subscribers.
Still, Bob-Waksberg did note that he was grateful to have received notice about the show's fate so that he could craft a fitting farewell. Like so much of the series, the last episode of BoJack leaves the viewer with plenty to think about. There are some happy moments, including with Princess Carolyn, but there's also the sense that the troubles that plague the group won't ever fully go away.
This is illustrated perfectly in the final scene that BoJack Horseman shares with Diane. Their friendship looks to be over, and Diane says as much, but they'll always be connected. Even though it wasn't the plan, the animated series signs off by staying perfectly true to itself and what it had been. If it never comes back, fans will always have a perfect show to return to.
