Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett episode 1.

Following his return in The Mandalorian, Boba Fett stars in The Mandalorian season 2 confirmed that he escaped the creature. The Book of Boba Fett sees the famous bounty hunter now taking the role of a crime lord, and episode 1, naturally, includes enticing teases for future adventures.

Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones gave him a detailed origin story, replacing his enigmatic nature with that of tragedy and a warrior’s lineage. Boba Fett is a clone, raised by his doner as a son. The death of his father, Jango Fett, forced Boba to rely on his father’s training to survive in an unforgiving and dangerous galaxy, where he soon took Jango’s place as the galaxy’s most renowned bounty hunter.

While the Legends version of Boba Fett eventually retired from his bounty hunter vocation to reembrace his Mandalorian heritage (eventually becoming the leader of the Mandalorian people), canon’s Fett is more interested in honoring his father as an individual, not becoming a Mandalorian warrior like him. Boba Fett, having had a lifelong career as a hired gun, is now a fledgling crime lord, whose experiences between Return of the Jedi and The Book of Boba Fett have humbled him, leading the former bounty hunter to form alliances and endeavor to rule through respect, rather than fear. While the life of a bounty hunter was fairly straightforward, Fett’s newfound leadership as a crime lord has already led to complex situations, reflected by The Book of Boba Fett episode 1 already raising several pressing questions.

How Bad Are Boba Fett’s Sarlacc Injuries?

The Book of Boba Fett opens with Fett in a bacta tank, continuing to recover from his time spent in the belly of the sarlacc. Fett didn't spend long in the sarlacc, but its powerful stomach acids, meant to excruciatingly digest beings for a thousand years, have debilitating long-term effects. In Legends, Fett’s time in the sarlacc led to serious health issues in his old age, and it appears that canon’s Fett is already suffering from exposure to the digestive fluids. Whether or not Boba will fully recover as he did in Legends remains to be seen, but for the time being, his condition has rendered him reliant on Fennec Shand and his hired guards.

Why Was There A Stormtrooper In The Sarlacc?

While Boba Fett was in the sarlacc, he sees an Imperial Stormtrooper, leading him to commandeer the trooper’s oxygen supply during his escape from the beast. It’s not clear if the Stormtrooper in the sarlacc is dead or merely dying, but their presence inside the monster raises some grim questions. Was the trooper thrown into the sarlacc by Jabba’s forces (despite his alliance with the Empire during the original trilogy era)? Was the trooper merely in the wrong place at the wrong time? In either case, the doomed trooper was a grisly sight in the The Book of Boba Fett episode 1's opening scenes.

Will Mok Shaiz Go To War With Boba Fett?

Early in the pilot episode, several criminal leaders pay tribute to Boba Fett, but Mok Shaiz, the mayor of Mos Espa, sends his majordomo in his place, who asks for payment instead of presenting it. Fennec Shand correctly warns the majordomo that Jabba would have had him killed for such disrespect, but Fett lets the man live, choosing diplomacy over force. What quarrel the mayor has with Boba Fett and whether or not the two are headed towards a gang war remains to be seen, but Mok Shaiz's disrespect for Fett is made clear.

Who Hired The Assassins In Mos Espa?

Boba Fett is surrounded by assassins in The Book of Boba Fett.

During their visit to Mos Espa, Boba Fett and Fennec Shand are ambushed by a sextet of highly-trained assassins, who Fett, Shand, and their two Gamorrean bodyguards fight off with difficulty. The question of who hired the assailants is sure to be the focus of future episodes of The Book of Boba Fett, with several potential answers. The most obvious suspect is Mok Shaiz, judging by his instigative “tribute” to the fledgling crime lord. Another possibility is Garsa Fwip, the cantina owner who Fett and Shand had met with moments earlier (who may be trying to gain further power in Mos Espa).

What Was The Six-Limbed Monster On Tatooine?

Boba Fett and sand monster in Book of Boba Fett

During his time as a prisoner of a Tusken Raider tribe, Boba Fett encounters a massive, six-limbed, beast while digging through the Tatooine sands for gourds. The creature quickly kills a Rodian prisoner who’d been digging alongside Fett, but the unarmed bounty hunter uses his chains to strangle the creature, saving the life of a young Tusken Raider and earning the respect of the rest of the tribe. Tatooine is one of the most well-documented planets in Star Wars, with horrific monsters like the sarlacc and Krayt Dragons rendering the desert world one of the galaxy’s harsher locales. Despite this, the six-limbed creature is new to the Star Wars mythos and remains unnamed for now. As with all Star Wars lore, the beast will eventually be given a name and extensive history, but for now, it remains shrouded in mystery.

Does Boba Fett The Tusken Raider Tribe?

After killing the creature and saving his young Tusken Raider overseer, Boba Fett returns to the Tusken Raider village, where the chieftain offers him a gourd in respect. Given that Fett wields a gaffi stick in The Mandalorian and his series taking place years after Return of the Jedi, he may have become an unofficial member of the tribe before seeking his armor back from Din Djarin. Fett may have also reached an epiphany of sorts, leading him to desire control over Tatooine instead of resuming his life as a bounty hunter. What happened in these intervening years remains one of The Book of Boba Fett’s biggest unanswered questions.
