Warning: the following contains SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett.

spaceport of Mos Espa, which is situated in the middle of the Dune Sea on the planet of Tatooine. The heads of Mos Espa's crime families were once captains under Jabba the Hutt, until he was killed by Rebel Alliance leader Princess Leia Organa. Later, Jabba's throne was taken over by Bib Fortuna, who was then killed by Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), who took the throne as the new daimyo (or crime lord) of Mos Espa. As part of his new role, Boba must unite the crime families of Mos Espa against a common threat to the planet: the Pyke Syndicate.

The leaders of Mos Espa's crime families were briefly featured in the series pilot of The Book of Boba Fett, paying tribute to the new daimyo. Later, in The Book of Boba Fett, “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa,” the former torture droid 8D8 (Matt Berry) briefs Boba and his partner Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) on the crime families and the respective sectors of Mos Espa which they protect and control. In preparation for the imminent war with the Pyke Syndicate, which seeks to drain Tatooine of its resources, Boba meets with the leaders of the crime families in The Book of Boba Fett episode “Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm.”

Boba Fett secures the cooperation of Mos Espa's crime families by promising to take care of the Pyke Syndicate himself. In return, the leaders of the respective families agree to remain neutral in the coming war. That being said, as 8D8 explains, the families were put in power by Bib Fortuna, who relied on “uneasy alliances” to maintain control and line the pockets of Mos Espa mayor Mok Sheiz. Here's a closer look at the crime families that currently rule over the prosperous city of Mos Espa.

The Trandoshans

There's a dark fewer reasons for Boba to trust the Trandoshans. Dokk Strassi's relatively cooperative attitude towards Boba could just be a setup for a double-cross somewhere down the line.

The Aqualish

The Aqualish Master Garfalaquox is the first crime family leader who pays tribute to Boba during the series pilot, offering a chest full of credits, and, as Fennec comments, “something about friendship.” Later, 8D8 serves as the translator for Garfalaquox, who seems to be mostly neutral when it comes to the feud between Boba Fett and the Pyke Syndicate. Apart from their spider-like appearance, the Aqualish are highly similar to humans in the Star Wars universe, in that their ranks include Galactic Republic senators, Sith-allied politicians, merchants, rebels, bounty hunters, and pirates. Garfalaquox and the Aqualish family are perhaps the most mysterious among Boba's new allies. Moreover, seeing as the Aqualish control the workers' district, they might hold the key to securing the loyalty of Mos Espa's toiling masses.

The Klatooinians

The Hutt Clans, which control various planets, often employ Klatooinians as bounty hunters, bodyguards, or henchmen – jobs that suit their strong physique and menacing appearance. They can be quite aggressive as well, as shown by the unnamed Klatooinian crime family boss (Phil Lamarr), who outright asks Boba, “Why do you deserve to be the new daimyo? What prevents us all from killing you and taking what we want?” Despite the Klatooinian's overtly aggressive and disrespectful behavior, it is his prodding that allows Boba to quickly get to the meat of the matter. While the Klatooinian family's attitude towards Boba leaves a lot to be desired, their straightforwardness could actually suggest that they're amiable towards a more long-term relationship with the new daimyo. Seeing as the Klatooinians control not only the upper parts of Mos Espa but the starport itself, they could prove to be worthwhile allies to Boba.

The Pyke Syndicate

The Pyke Syndicate stepping out of a ship in The Book of Boba Fett

The Pyke Syndicate is the group thattaking over Tatooine would give the Pyke Syndicate a significant foothold on the illegal spice trade across the Outer Rim planets. This is why the Pykes are willing to go to war with Boba Fett over Tatooine.

The Book of Boba Fett puts Boba in a position that entails much more than shooting faster than the next guy. As Boba navigates his new role as Mos Espa's daimyo, it remains to be seen whether or not Mos Espa's crime families are willing to fall in line. In any case, the coming war with the Pyke Syndicate is bound to reveal these families' true allegiances soon enough.
