Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #80 of BorutoEida's power of Omnipotence to change reality and make everyone believe that he is the Hokage's son, and Boruto is the outsider who betrayed Konoha, fans are expecting that the hero will be able to fix everything in the future, but according to Momoshiki Otsutsuki this will never be possible.

In chapter #80 of Boruto, the series ends its first part on a cliffhanger before taking a break of a few months. Unexpectedly, Eida's mysterious power was not the ability to make people fall in love with her, but something much grander, an Otsutsuki shinjitsu (divine technique) called Omnipotence, that can literally rewrite reality. After Kawaki exploits this power to reverse his and Boruto's roles, the protagonist runs away with Sasuke to become stronger and find a way to save everyone. However, according to Momoshiki, even if Boruto kills Eida, the effect of Omnipotence is now permanent and can't be reversed.

Momoshiki Tells Boruto That He Cannot Reverse Eida's Omnipotence

Momoshiki tells Boruto that he can't reverse Omnipotence

This is truly a surprising twist for the series. Usually, when something so big happens in a story (not just in manga but in Western comics too), the heroes always find a way to bring things back to normal. If Momoshiki is to be trusted, this will not happen, and Boruto will always be, in the eyes of the world, the person who killed the Seventh Hokage, while Kawaki will be Konoha's hero, when in truth he is the one who trapped Naruto and Hinata in another dimension. Whatever Boruto will do, even if he can somehow get rid of Momoshiki, Eida, and Kawaki, he will always remain a villain in everyone's eyes.

It's entirely possible, however, that Momoshiki is lying. His purpose in this chapter seems to be driving Boruto to desperation, to weaken him enough to take over his body once and for all. This could be all part of his ploy, and there is actually a way to break the Omnipotence technique. The key could be Sarada Uchiha's Mangekyo Sharingan, which made her immune to the spell. Another simpler way would be for Kawaki or Eida to simply reverse the technique, but they have no reason for doing it. However, Boruto states that he doesn't want to kill Kawaki, but rather get strong enough to make him see reason. This could be the prelude to Kawaki asking Eida to reverse her power, after Boruto beats some reason into him.

Hopefully, the series will not take such an obvious route and instead prove that Boruto can actually step out of Naruto's shadow. The Omnipotence twist, with Boruto and Kawaki swapping roles, is the first real unexpected development for Naruto's controversial sequel, and the idea that it cannot be reversed makes it even better. Boruto's part 2 will tell fans if Momoshiki is right and if the series' biggest original twist is actually permanent.
