Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #78 of BorutoSasuke's daughter, Sarada Uchiha, is one of the most underestimated and underused characters in Boruto, but chapter #78 of the series finally puts the spotlight on Sarada and her relationship with the protagonist, Boruto.
In chapter #78 of Boruto, Kawaki, who has just betrayed Konoha and imprisoned Naruto and Hinata in the Daikokuten dimension, ambushes Boruto to kill him in order to protect Naruto and Konoha from Momoshiki Otsutsuki, who is trying to take over Boruto's body. Sarada, who has only just learned that Boruto was killed (and then resurrected) by Kawaki during their battle against Code, intervenes to save his friend, while proudly declaring her dream of becoming the next Hokage.
Sarada Is Boruto's Most Original Character
Sarada is one of the most interesting characters in Boruto. As the daughter of Sasuke and Sakura, she has inherited her father's seriousness and dedication but also her mother's comionate nature, which makes Sarada one of the most original characters in Boruto. One of the most interesting twists in the series is that, despite being Naruto's son, Boruto does not want to follow in his father's footsteps as the next Hokage. This is actually Sarada's dream, which creates an interesting dynamic between her and Boruto, along with the fact that the young Uchiha girl has at times shown romantic feelings for the protagonist.
However, these seeds never got the chance to sprout in the series. While the anime took the time granted by its filler episodes to expand on Team 7 and their relationship, in the Boruto manga Sarada rarely got the time to shine, much to the dismay of fans. Chapter #78 almost shows awareness of this issue, as Sarada is shocked to learn she has been kept out of the loop regarding the recent events in Boruto's life. Her determination to protect her friend, despite Kawaki's overwhelming strength and killing intent, makes Sarada finally shine.
Sarada Never Got Enough Time To Shine In Boruto
It must be said, however, that this rescue ended up with Sarada needing to be saved by Boruto, which is not a good look for the Uchiha. While it was great to see Sarada jumping into action, this also highlighted the gap in power between those touched by the Otsutsuki (Boruto, Kawaki, Code, Eida, and Daemon), and everyone else in the series. It would be better, in future Boruto chapters, to see Sarada (but also other shinobi of the new generation like Mitsuki) play a more important role in the story.
