The final season of Bosch: Legacy will be back for season 3, and the spinoff is essentially a continuation of the main show. It brought back attorney Honey Chandler (played by Mimi Rogers), and Maddie Bosch (Madison Lintz), Harry's daughter, with the season 2 finale ending with Maddie questioning her faith in her father and what he's capable of.
Michael Connelly, who wrote the books on which Bosch is based, confirmed the show's ending in a reflective Instagram post. Check it out below:
It's also been confirmed that Bosch: Legacy season 3 will premiere in March 2025 on both Freevee and Prime Video. Although a reason for the show's end was not stated in Connelly's Instagram post, he did tease Welliver's return by noting: “If you know anything about my books, then you know you have not seen the last of Harry Bosch!”

Even though the action drama is ending on Prime Video, following a game-changing Bosch: Legacy season 2 finale, Welliver will still reprise his role in an spinoff centered around the Renée Ballard character that's also created by Connelly. The character, who runs the LAPD's underfunded cold case division, will be played by Nikita star Maggie Q. An official synopsis of the show, which is expected to debut in 2025, is included below:
The series follows Detective Renée Ballard, who is tasked with running the LAPD's new cold case division - a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she'll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.
Bosch and the Ballard spinoff will cross over frequently, at least at first. Q will crossover with Titus Welliver's Harry Bosch in the Bosch: Legacy season 3 finale, which is now also the series finale. The episode will also partially function as Ballard's introduction. Welliver will also appear as his long-running character in three episodes during the spinoff's first season, potentially offering closure to his long-running character depending on when the spinoff releases in fall 2025.

Bosch and Bosch: Legacy have both been remarkably consistent in of writing and acting, but some story lines still stand out from the rest.
The Renée Ballard series has been filming and assembling a cast that includes American Horror Story and Zodiac star John Carroll Lynch. It's unclear if Welliver will continue his Bosch role beyond helping to launch the spinoff. But it at least means that his long-running character might have an avenue to continue appearing, along with those closest to him, even if he's no longer the main character.
