A Nintendo’s critically acclaimed addition to The Legend of Zelda franchise continues to captivate its players thanks to its open-world design, allowing players to experience the game at their own pace.
First appearing as an old woman in The Legend of Zelda in 1986, Impa is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda franchise, often providing helpful guidance to the player protagonist, Link. Belonging to the mysterious Sheikah tribe, Impa is part of a race of people that were chosen by the Goddess Hylia to protect the Royal Family of Hyrule, and namely Princess Zelda, who is the mortal incarnation of the Goddess herself. Appearing as an old grandmother during the events of Breath of The Wild, Impa is the elder of Kakariko Village, where she patiently awaits Link’s arrival.
Reddit ThornyFox shared a video of their discovery in Breath of the Wild, where they terrorized Impa, causing her to flee her home upon seeing the monster the Redditor had brought. By utilizing an Ice Rod to continuously freeze a Silver Bokoblin, ThornyFox managed to slowly push the incapacitated creature up the stairs to Impa’s home in Kakariko Village. ThornyFox seemed to have cleverly planned their mission to scare the Sheikah grandmother, having placed a square bomb to keep Impa’s door open while they pushed the monster ever closer towards the household's entrance.
Upon seeing the frozen Bokoblin approaching her doorway, Impa quickly sprang into action, sprinting out of her home whilst hilariously dragging the three cushions she was resting on along with her. Impa’s granddaughter Paya was not as proactive as her grandmother, however, and instead chose to stay inside the home, cowering in terror as she watched the events unfold. Four years on from its release, Breath of the Wild fans continue to uncover new details and easter eggs within the game, with one player recently managing to trick Yiga Blademaster into stealing the Thunder Helm.
Impa’s hilarious reaction to ThornyFox’s shenanigans was certainly worth the arduous effort in pushing a Bokoblin all the way across the map. While it’s uncertain whether her response was intended by the game’s designers, it is still an incredibly realistic reaction to seeing a large monster being dragged towards their home. No doubt there are still plenty more details for players to uncover in Hyrule while they wait for the game’s sequel, Breath of the Wild 2, releasing in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
