Nintendo has shared new footage of the co-op mode from the Bowser's Fury portion of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. Super Mario 3D World originally released on the Wii U in 2013, but it's receiving some new treatment on the Switch on February 12. The game is being re-released with a brand-new expansion pack in the form of Bowser's Fury. In this mode, Mario and Bowser Jr. must work together to free Bowser from a nefarious, sticky goo, collecting various Cat Shines along the way.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury was revealed this past September during a Mario-focused Nintendo Direct. This Direct was brimming with trailers and announcements in celebration of the plumber's 35th anniversary. Other games announced included no longer be for sale and Super Mario Bros. 35 won't even be playable.
As of now, however, the celebration continues with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and Nintendo has shared new footage of that game's co-op mode for the Bowser's Fury section. This Nintendo Minute video goes into further detail about how the co-op will work in the game, as one player will control Mario while the other will control Bowser Jr. In the video, Nintendo Minute hosts Kit and Krysta show how Bowser Jr. can attack enemies, paint over question marks on walls to unveil secrets, and conveniently warp back to Mario's location. The video even shows what happens when Bowser awakens. The stage slowly becomes rainier and rainier, and when the sky finally darkens, Bowser wreaks havoc. Even the once-friendly cats turn hostile.
Although plenty of information has already been disclosed about the game, players hadn't quite seen an in-depth look at how Bowser Jr. controls prior to this video. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is only a few days away from its launch, but new information is always appreciated. Additionally, the level of detail that occurs when Bowser rises from his gooey slumber is impressive. Seeing the cats go from lovingly sweet to bitterly evil is a nice touch, too.
This stage, being more open than levels from the base game, seems to be packed with secrets, as well. Kit and Krysta mention at one point in the video that some secrets can only be discovered through Bowser's colossal fire beams, meaning that there will be several methods of finding those coveted collectibles. There's no timer, either, so players will be able to explore this part of the game as long as they please, or until Bowser comes out to ruin the fun, that is.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury hits Nintendo Switch on February 12, 2021.
