A horse painting in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild manages to fool the Shiekah slate camera into thinking that it’s a real horse. The Sheikah Slate has the ability to take pictures of the various creatures and objects Link encounters in the world of Hyrule and uses these pictures as entries for the compendium it provides.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features a variety of creatures that Link can ride. Horses can be found everywhere in the world, and there are even special horses that can be tamed such as the giant horse that resembles Ganondorf’s horse. Then there are other creatures in BotW that can be ridden but not ed such as bears and the Lord of the Mountain. All of these animals provide lots of entries that can be ed in the Shiekah slate.

When taking a picture of a horse painting, Reddit Notnilc13 had the slate ask if it wanted to replace the old picture for the horse entry. At first, this seems like the slate mistook the painting for an actual horse, but the real reason for this happening is due to a horse being in the background of the picture, according to Notnilc13. While it may pull back the curtain on what initially seemed like a funny misunderstanding, it is still an amusing incident regardless.

Players have used horses in a variety of creative ways in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Some players have found ways to get horses inside locations where they’re not normally allowed. This includes Zora’s Domain and Gerudo Desert. One player also found a way to break a horse’s fall by using ice arrows to freeze it in mid-air. These tricks show just how many hidden secrets the game has to offer.

As more details continue to release on the sequel to Breath of the Wild, one question hanging in the air is how horses will be handled in the game. The first Breath of the Wild eventually implemented being able to call horses from anywhere with the paid DLC, but it would be ideal if this feature wasn’t locked behind paid content in Breath of the Wild 2. The truth of the horse painting might not be as hilarious as the initial impression, but the fact remains that this picture could still be saved as the picture for the horse entry. Ultimately, it still remains a funny tale to be told of a horse and the slate it was captured on.
