The Bride! is the latest attempt to resurrect the Classic Monsters once again, and there are already a ton of exciting updates about the Bride of Frankenstein remake. The original Bride of Frankenstein movie was released in 1935. It sees Dr. Frankenstein being forced to return to his monstrous experiments, and this time, he creates a bride for his first creation. The Frankenstein's Bride character is just as well-known as Frankenstein's Monster, with her makeup and hairstyle making her an LGBTQ+ icon, so it's unsurprising that Universal has tried hard to remake the film.
The closest the studio came to making the remake was with the Universal Dark Universe, a cinematic universe planned to include several iconic monsters such as Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, and many others. The Bride of Frankenstein was one of them, and a remake within the Dark Universe had entered early conceptual development. However, after the critical and commercial failure of 2017's The Mummy, all Universal Dark Universe plans were instantly canceled. Thankfully, The Bride! is in the works, and the remake is in development once again at Warner Bros. instead.

The Bride! Latest News
Footage Premieres At CinemaCon
Just a few days after the movie was rescheduled, the latest news arrives in the form of footage from The Bride! at CinemaCon in April 2025. The horror reimagining was part of the Warner Bros. presentation at the annual cinema event, and key details are finally starting to surface. Unfortunately, the footage is not available to the public yet, though ScreenRant was in attendance and took copious notes. The footage reveals how the titular character died, and poses questions about whether it was an accident. What follows is a violent series of events in which the Monster kills several people.
Read the full footage description here:
We see the bride as a human die by falling down the stairs, and she asks, “Was I the same before the accident?” But someone says that it wasn’t an accident, and that they “did it” on purpose. We see Frankenstein’s monster revive the bride. This is followed by several shots - almost one-to-two per second - of brutal scenes with the monster and bride. One shows the monster killing someone in front of the bride by smashing him against the wall and then stepping on him. The trailer ends with the bride asking, “What’s my name? I can’t .” The final shot is of her in black-and-white, seemingly just a head in a glass case, saying, “Monstrous.”
The Bride! Release Date
The Monster Returns In March 2026
The Bride! hasn't had the smoothest path to the big screen, and the long-gestating project has seen its release date shifted several times. Originally, Warner Bros. scheduled the film for an October 2025 release, but they soon moved it a few weeks earlier to September. The most recent change has seen the studio reschedule The Bride! for March 6, 2026, a significant shift from previous release dates. This change is due to poor test screenings, and the movie will likely undergo reshoots.
The Bride of Frankenstein premiered on April 22, 1935.

The Bride! Story Details
Maggie Gyllenhaal's Bride Of Frankenstein Remake Travels To The 1930s
the Bride's arrival brings about radical social changes to 1930s America.
The story of The Bride! has long been speculated on, but it has now been officially confirmed that the standalone remake will not exclusively follow the plot of the original movie. Instead, Gyllenhaal's take on the Bride will be set in 1930s Chicago and will follow the lonely Frankenstein's monster as he seeks out Dr. Euphronius to make him a mate. The revealed logline also hints at a much more complex story involving the eponymous Bride.
In Gyllenhaal's new version, the bride that is resurrected is actually a murdered young woman who comes back to life with the aid of Dr. Euphronius. This will, according to the logline, cause city-wide intrigue as the Bride's arrival brings about radical social changes to 1930s America. What that means will only become clear once The Bride! is released, but it already promises an entirely new vision.
