A24 horror movie, Bring Her Back, follows a brother and sister who discover a horrifying ritual hidden in their new foster mother's remote home, with the cast including Sally Hawkins, Billy Barratt, and Sora Wong.

Now, during an appearance on the Jake's Takes podcast, Danny and Michael Philippou confirmed that both their A24 horror movies, Talk to Me and Bring Her Back, are set in the same universe. Asked explicitly if the embalmed hand from Talk to Me exists in the same universe that Bring Her Back is set in, Danny Philippou responded, "I would say so, yes," with Michael Philippou adding, "And there's going to be something to prove that soon." Read their relevant comment or watch the full portion of the video below:

Danny Philippou: Naturally, because we're writing our own films, they are automatically set in some sort of universe, and we've got a way in our heads that they all tie together.

What This Means For Bring Her Back & Talk To Me

The Philippou Brothers Are Building Their Own Connected Universe

The Philippou brothers confirm that Talk to Me and Bring Her Back are set in the same universe, though they stopped short of revealing exactly how the two A24 horror movies are connected. For starters, their second film appears to be a similarly intense horror tale centered once more on youth and demonic possession, though approached from a very different angle. The filmmakers claim that both movies exist within the same universe, and though the exact connections aren't immediately apparent, they should be soon.

Bring Her Back Review: A24’s New Horror Is A Shocking Ride That Will Leave You More Sad Than Scared

Bring Her Back revels in its chilling atmosphere and strong performances, but the story isn't original enough to distinguish itself within the genre.

Bring Her Back and Talk to Me are likely connected through a shared sense of demonology. In Bring Her Back, much of the lore is drawn from a series of grainy VHS tapes that are glimpsed in brief and eerie moments throughout the film. While these tapes offer a different gateway into the supernatural than Talk to Me's embalmed hand, and Bring Her Back presents a very different take on demonic possession, both films still convincingly inhabit the same ominously hidden spiritual realm.

Our Take On Bring Her Back & Talk To Me Being Set In The Same Universe

This Is Just The Beginning

As Michael and Danny Philippou continue to delve into the horror genre, they will likely continue creating loosely connected stories set within a shared universe. This approach will likely carry over into their next horror movie, expected in 2027, and their planned Talk 2 Me sequel as well. The connected universe hints at a deeper and chilling lore yet to be revealed, and Talk to Me and Bring Her Back appears to only be the beginning of that.

Bring Her Back releases in theaters on May 30.
