A the reboot was put on hold. There is no longer a network willing to house the series, and anyone wanting to see more Buffy Summers on their TV screens will have to wait. However, the good news is that, thanks to streaming, anyone who wants to see some of the best supernatural television of the '90s can catch the original show all over again.
This means people can watch all the beloved characters show up all over again and cement their legacy in Sunnydale. While some of the best characters showed up in low-key fashion, there were some unforgettable entrances on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, making these characters icons right from the start.
9 Buffy Summers - "Welcome to the Hellmouth" (S1. E1)
The titular heroine of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy Summers' introduction was no sign of what was to come. Buffy basically woke up from a nightmare about school and then went to the first day of class at Sunnydale High.
The only hint given here that Buffy was different came from her principal, who said she could have a "clean slate" since she burned down her previous school's gym. However, this entry set up everything, from Buffy's complicated Scooby Gang to her introduction to Giles and Angel.
8 Kendra Young - "What's My Line? Part 1" (S2. E9)
When Buffy died fighting The Master, it powered up a new Slayer. This was Kendra Young, and she had been training with her own Watcher, even after Buffy returned from the dead. Kendra didn't arrive until the ninth episode of season 2, when she attacked Buffy because she saw her with Angel.
After the two battled to a standstill, the mysterious woman introduced herself to Buffy as Kendra the Vampire Slayer. This was a shock, bringing another Slayer into the show. It changed what people knew about the Chosen One and having someone equal in power to Buffy altered the dynamic of the show.
7 Dawn Summers - "Buffy vs. Dracula" (S5. E1)
When Dawn Summers first showed up in the fifth season premiere, it angered almost every Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. However, that made her entry into the show so brilliant. Before this moment, Dawn never existed; Buffy never had a sister. Then, out of nowhere, she was there.
What was shocking about the moment was that Buffy acted like she always had a sister, and the show played it the same way. It took a while to reveal what Dawn really was, but her intro was something no one ever forgot.
6 Anya Jenkins "The Wish" (S3. E9)
Anya arrived as a demon, but she ended up as part of the Scooby Gang and an ally up to her death in the finale. She showed up in Sunnydale in season 3 after Xander cheated on Cordelia. She then granted Cordelia's wish that Buffy had never shown up in Sunnydale.
However, what resulted was a Sunnydale that was overrun with vampires, including Xander and Willow. This was one of the best episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as, after Anya's failure, she was stripped of her powers and eventually integrated herself as a friend, and Xander's eventual romantic partner.
5 Darla "Welcome to the Hellmouth" (S1. E1)
What made the premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer so great was that it showed how vampires were living among humans, and anyone could be a killer. The pilot opened with two tweenagers making out in a school at night. However, it turned out the girl was the vampire, Darla.
This was the first time anyone saw the transformation from human to vamp, and it ended up as a signature of the show. The fact Darla became so important through the years, especially to Angel, made her entrance one no fan could ever forget.
4 Angel "Welcome to the Hellmouth" (S1. E1)
Angel became one of the most popular characters ever to come out of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He even got his own spinoff show, which was even better than Buffy in some ways. However, his introduction made him look both cool and a little awkward at the same time.
Angel was watching Buffy, and when she realized it, she led him into a trap. She took him down quickly, but he let her know he knew what she was, and they were on the same side. He was trying to act nonchalant, but that was tough to pull off when the Slayer had him down on his back. However, Angel was the most mysterious thing in the series during that premiere, and that made him memorable.
3 Faith Lehane "Faith, Hope & Trick" (S3. E3)
While Kendra was the first Slayer to appear outside of Buffy on the show, she wasn't the last — she wasn't even the most memorable. While Kendra attacked Buffy and the two fought to a standstill, Faith showed she was one of the bravest Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters from the moment she was introduced.
When Buffy saw a vampire tracking Faith, she went to save her, only to watch Faith effortlessly kill it. It was great to see someone who was not only as powerful as Buffy demolishing vampires in her first appearance, but also had such enthusiasm for the job.
2 Glory "No Place Like Home" (S5. E5)
Glory was the Big Bad in season 5. However, her first appearance took viewers by complete surprise. A group of monks were hiding from a powerful force threatening them, with one monk hiding behind a steel door, fearing for his life.
Someone started knocking on the door, and eventually began pounding. The anticipation grew to an almost unbearable height when suddenly the Beast destroyed the steel door down and walked in. It was Glory, in a long red dress. She then attacked the monks, tortured one of them, and then showed later she was even more powerful than Buffy herself. It was one of the best villain intros in TV history.
1 Spike "School Hard" (S2. E3)
The best introduction of any character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer came in the season 2 episode, "School Hard." This was clearly Spike, and the episode gets bonus points for also introducing Drucilla to the Buffyverse. Spike was the best villain in the series, and also one of the best antiheroes in the entire franchise.
Right after Xander says "Nothing bad is going to happen," it was the jinx that Buffy and Willow feared. In the very next scene, a car plows over a sign that said, "Welcome to Sunnydale." With a metal music score, Spike got out of the car, with his long trench coat, bleached blonde hair, and his vamp face — and nothing was ever the same.
