As Krakoa's tragic fall continues one of the most iconic X-Men heroes will face a new threat, as the time-traveling Cable teams up with his younger self Kid Cable to take on the "Neocracy" in a new Cable limited series. After partnering with his former rival Bishop in Children of the Vault, Cable will need to trust himself if he is to change the future and save the world.
Kid Cable was a major part of the Krakoan Age, after killing the older Cable to save the timeline, but later successfully got the older Cable resurrected, so they could partner to take down Stryfe before Kid Cable left Krakoa to return to the future.
The announcement by Marvel reveals a new Cable series from iconic Cable writer Fabian Nicieza, with art by Scot Eaton, that will see the two Cables once again teaming up to take down a major enemy, and hopefully save the world once again. Check out the gorgeous main cover for Cable #1 by Whilce Portacio and Declan Shalvey's awesome variant cover above, and the official synopsis for the series below:
The future must not come to ! All the signs are here: The Neocracy is coming—and with it comes not only the end of mutantkind, but all of the humankind as well! As if rescuing Young Nate from the ongoing threat of Orchis weren't enough, can Cable root out this growing threat and decimate it before the Neocracy has a chance to take hold? Is he already too late to change the future?
Cable Will Need To Save Kid Cable From The Clutches Of Orchis
Fabian Nicieza has written Cable more than any other Marvel writer in history, penning many of his definitive 90s stories as well as the iconic 2004 Cable & Deadpool series, so his return to the character is quite exciting. Nicieza has not had the chance to write Kid Cable yet, so it will be fascinating to see how he develops the Cables "emotional" relationship with each other. Kid Cable returned to comics in X-Men #24 where he was promptly captured by Moira X and Orchis after trying to stop their assault on Krakoa.
Nicieza's Cable limited series will see the two heavy hitters attempting to save mutant, and human, lives from the threat of the terrifying new Neocracy... but first, old Cable will need to save Kid Cable from Orchis. The teenage Cable returned to the Krakoan Age to confront Orchis and stop the Hellfire Gala tragedy from occurring, but instead, he walked right into Moira X's trap. For some dark, twisted reason Moira wanted Kid Cable alive, and older Cable will surely need to go through major foes and security protocols if he is to save his teen self from their clutches.
The Cables Must Defeat The Neocracy To Save The Future
Little has been revealed about the new Neocracy threat, except that they will bring "a revolution of evolution" that the two Cables will need to stop before their horrible future can take hold. Even while the X-Men are facing the devastating Fall of the House of X, Cable must turn his attention to the world's next major danger. The X-Men once faced a race of evolved mutant beings called the "Neo" in an incredibly controversial story, until the Neo were seemingly exterminated in 2011s X-Men: Giant-Size #1. While it would be very surprising if Marvel decided to bring back the Neo for this story, the talented Nicieza could certainly find a way to make their reintroduction to comics meaningful and enthralling.
With threats facing him on all sides, from Orchis to the Children of the Vault, to the cosmic Dominion, Cable is going to need to trust in his younger self's skills and maturity to take on the Neocracy together. It's Cable and Kid Cable together again as the two iconic X-Men heroes find themselves facing off against the oncoming Neocracy, as the last beings that stand in the way of total annihilation.
Cable #1 from Marvel Comics debuts January 17th, 2023.
