Guadagnino also revealed progress on the Call Me by Your Name sequel has been halted, like everything these days, because of the coronavirus pandemic. He said, "Before coronavirus, I made a trip to the United States to meet a screenwriter I love very much, whose name I don’t want to say, to talk about the second part. Unfortunately, we had to put it on hold." This seems to indicate James Ivory, who wrote the screenplay for the first film, won't be returning. It also assures fans that the sequel is still in active development, though it might be a while before things get moving once again.
