Leaks may have already spoiled the identity of the next game in the Activision is charging current-gen players to upgrade their game to next-gen hardware.

With an annual franchise like Call of Duty, fans can always expect something new on the horizon. For months now, that something new has been Black Ops Cold War. The game has been speculated on and anticipated for some time now, and Activision has teased out more and more details as the release draws nearer. With the game only half a month away, fans have a nearly complete idea of what to expect from the game, including its intrigue-heavy single player campaign and its various Zombie modes. Soon, Black Ops Cold War will be in the present instead of the future, and Call of Duty fans will need something else to look forward to.

Prominent leaker antiquated conflict like the Cold War, or something more outlandish, like the sci-fi setting of 2016's Infinite Warfare. That would indicate Modern Warfare, which would make some sense; 2019's title served as a reboot of the Modern Warfare series, and while it's an awfully quick turnaround, expanding on the newly revived sub-series is a logical move. The 2019 game's story campaign already set up a sequel following the continued adventures of protagonist John Price and his quest to stop terrorist Victor Zakhaev.

Obviously nothing has been confirmed yet. Activision is still gearing up for Black Ops Cold War, and has yet to share any information about what comes next. Leaks and rumors like this should never be taken as gospel; it's far too easy to spread disinformation and lies online. The Call of Duty franchise has certainly had its fair share of problems with leaks in the past. The title of Black Ops Cold War, for instance, was leaked by a Doritos bag, of all things. It would certainly be a shame for Activision to have two games spoiled in a row.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for the Call of Duty franchise. In the meantime, fans will certainly not be bereft. Black Ops Cold War is shaping up to be a very prominent title, and the franchise's free to play battle royale is still going strong as well. Activision has even announced plans to tie the two games together soon after the new one releases. Regardless of what the 2021 game will be, the future looks bright for Call of Duty.
