Summary

  • Don't worry - you can keep playing Flintlock after beating the final boss and finishing the main story.
  • The postgame is straightforward - just load an old save to complete any side content left unfinished.
  • While there's no New Game Plus mode at launch, there is plenty of side content to keep players busy.

With a handful of optional objectives, it's only natural to wonder whether it's possible to keep playing Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn after beating the final boss and finishing the main story. Flintlock is a Soulslite action RPG with firearm-centric gameplay. As protagonist Nor, players will dodge, jump, and shoot their way across the map, defeating mobs of enemies and crushing Old God bosses as they attempt to keep humanity alive.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn uses a semi-open world design philosophy: in short, players are able to travel freely through small, but condensed areas. They can fast travel back and forth between certain waypoints, while Nor's caravan serves as a persistent hub area. There's a fair bit of side content to be done, but not so much that it gets repetitive or feels like a chore. That said, players may leave some things unfinished before heading into the final boss fight of Flintlock, and may consider returning to tackle some of that side content even after finishing the story.

Thankfully, it is possible to keep playing Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn after beating the final boss, and go around completing any and all side content the player left unfinished. It's as simple as loading an old save, which will place the player right before the last boss arena, and allow them to continue as if they had never begun the final battle. From there, it's possible to fast travel just as before, and complete whatever they left unfinished.

There’s not too much side content available in Flintlock, but there is a wide variety. Most of it remains available even after the credits roll. After beating the final boss, players can return to complete Inaya Shrines, which increase Nor's max HP; Enki’s feathers, which buff her fox companion; Hamlets, which can be cleared of enemies to unlock new fast travel points and healing item upgrades; games of Sebo, an in-universe board game; and various other side quests.

Some side quests may have a point of no return prior to the final boss, so keep an eye on them and take careful notes.

Does Flintlock Have A New Game Plus Mode?

Flintlock Doesn't Include NG+ At Launch

Many Souls-adjacent games, including Elden Ring, include some form of New Game Plus functionality. This allows players to carry over some of their progress into a new playthrough, with enemy stats usually scaled up to match their fully-leveled builds. This can be an engaging way to prolong a game's playtime past its final boss fight, keeping things interesting through multiple playthroughs.

Unfortunately, Flintlock doesn't have a NG+ mode. While there is potential for it to be added in a future update, the developers don't have any plans to do so at the moment. That could change if the game proves popular, but for the time being, players who want to go for a second run will have to start from scratch.

Ultimately, Flintlock is a pretty short game - it's estimated to take anywhere from 15 to 30 hours to complete, depending on the difficulty settings and the player's level of familiarity with the genre. The side content that does exist is necessary for upgrading Nor's stats and weapons throughout the game. While some players will inevitably leave things unfinished before the final boss, they can rest easy knowing that they can always continue playing Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn after the credits roll - even if there's no word of a NG+.
