The release date for Universal's delayed to an unspecified date sometime in 2021, upsetting fans of both the franchise and fans of the freaky trailer released for this new installment.

Now Variety reports that the Candyman reboot is set for a summer 2021 release date, assuring fans of more or less when they can start reciting the name in front of their mirrors. Like most scheduled in 2020, the film had been pushed back and delayed due to cinemas being shut down during the coronavirus pandemic. While studios like Disney have relented and released their tentpoles on streaming services, Candyman director Nia DaCosta has remained adamant her film be released theatrically.

Even though fans might be disappointed at repeated delays, DaCosta has managed to keep them intrigued until the premiere date. During the virtual Nightstream Fest, the director revealed that her reboot would explore a new origin story for the hook-wielding monster (played once again, by the deep-voiced Tony Todd).
