Fans who tuned in to yesterday's Capcom Showcase livestream were treated to more information about the dinosaur-busting action game March’s PlayStation State of Play livestream, as Exoprimal’s reveal trailer featured a team of high-tech combatants tearing through waves of hungry dinosaurs at the behest of an AI in the far-off year of 2043.

Exoprimal quickly drew comparisons to Dino Crisis, a Capcom-developed survival horror franchise that also pitted players against an onslaught of bloodthirsty dinosaurs. However, Exoprimal stands out against previous titles thanks to its varied assortment of Anthem-like exosuits. Each suit offers weapons and abilities needed to fend off the prehistoric creatures as they rain down from dimensional wormholes in the sky. While some Dino Crisis fans hoping for a reboot may be disappointed that Capcom is launching a brand-new IP with a similar subject matter instead, Exoprimal seems to have enough original elements to make it a unique and exciting experience.

During yesterday's half-hour-long Capcom Showcase livestream (via Exoprimal’s Dino Survival mode, which has two five-person squads racing to complete a dynamic assortment of objectives as per Leviathan’s instructions. Dino Survival’s missions change based on the player’s progression through the campaign, meaning that no two playthroughs are identical - and players will unlock story sequences and new upgrades for their Exosuits along the way. Hiraoka also described some of the available Exosuits available in Exoprimal and ended his by announcing that there will be a closed network beta test held ahead of Exoprimal’s launch in 2023.

Exoprimal was just one of the titles shown off during the Capcom Showcase. While the livestream was shorter than some of the other Summer Game Fest events, it did provide players with a closer look at previously announced titles like the Resident Evil 4 remake and Capcom Fighting Collection. There were also new announcements surrounding Resident Evil Village’s new DLC and PlayStation VR , as well as a new Mercenaries mode that will allow fans to control the undead villainess Lady Dimitrescu.

Meanwhile, Exoprimal looks like a promising and exciting dinosaur-hunting action title with plenty of variety and intrigue, especially in how players will unlock the mystery of Leviathan and Aibbus Corp as they tear through armies of prehistoric beasts. Thankfully, players won’t have to wait too long to jump into Exoprimal, as it is currently set to launch sometime next year with a closed network beta test to be revealed at a later date.
