Legendary video game publisher and developer Capcom fans looking for Resident Evil news.

While Capcom is perhaps best known in the contemporary gaming sphere for franchises like the action-packed Devil May Cry and the thrilling Resident Evil, the veteran company has been involved in the industry since the 1980s, when the arcade was king in the video game world. During that time and well into the home console era, Capcom was one of the biggest names out there when it came to 2D fighting games. Titles like the original Street Fighter games were massive hits, and continue to feature heavily in high-profile gaming competitions. Capcom also released slightly more obscure fighting games such as Red Earth which ran primarily in arcades. The company is still putting plenty of resources and effort into its leading fighting series, as evidenced by the recent Street Fighter 6 reveal, but many of these other franchises appear to have been forgotten.

It looks like Capcom hasn't fully given up on these classic games, according to a Tweet from the official Capcom USA Twitter announcing the release of a new retro game compilation. The bundle - which is titled Capcom Fighting Collection and will arrive this summer - features ten classic games from the iconic developer. Among these re-released titles are the original Red EarthStreet Fighter II, and all five Darkstalkers games. The collection will also include behind-the-scenes documents, concept art, additional settings, and, perhaps most significantly, online play.

This is certainly welcome news for fans of any of these classic fighting titles. This compilation could also introduce new gamers to these retro games, as modern Capcom remains relevant in the fighting game space through franchises like Street Fighter and the collaborative Marvel vs. Capcom. Indeed, there is a major market for both re-releases of classic games and traditional fighters.

With that said, there are still plenty of fans who are disappointed by the lack of news regarding non-fighter games like Resident Evil. This chagrin might be somewhat misguided, however, as Capcom is clearly still focusing on these franchises. Resident Evil Village came out just last year, and a DLC is currently in the works. If Capcom wants to bolster its catalog of games with a new Street Fighter and this collection of classic fighters, the gaming landscape will likely be all the better for it.
