Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) isn't Peter Quill/Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) grandfather, James Gunn says. After a tumultuous time following his firing and eventual re-hiring to direct busy helming Warner Bros. and DC's The Suicide Squad, he took the time to address an ongoing theory pertaining to Peter's lineage.
It all started with the idea that Steve could be the grandfather of Peter after a fan spotted that Captain America: The First Avenger. Obviously, they can't be the same character, but the theory posits that the one who had an encounter with the Super Soldier in the 2011 film was Meredith's mother. Fans entertained the idea, but Gunn has now come out and effectively squashed it.
Taking it to his official Twitter , Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 played by Gregg Henry. Check out the filmmaker's full tweet below:
Some fans in the comments section of Gunn's tweet are happy that the filmmaker came out to address it. That way people can stop focusing their time and energy trying to either prove or debunk this claim. ittedly, the idea of Steve and Peter having this unnoticeable link was fun to discuss, and considering that Marvel Studios has mostly done a great job connecting plot threads, this wasn't outside the realm of possibility. All that being said, there's a case to be said about franchises having the need to link everyone with each other - a common criticism in the thread below Gunn's social media post.
Now that this is all resolved, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could focus on the Peter's next adventure which will more likely not have anything to do with his lineage. Instead, it will deal with he lived a full life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) after retiring the Infinity Stones from the Time Heist. There are still some questions regarding how this actually plays out and Marvel Studios has yet to confirm what's in the MCU canon. But word has it that he had kids, although the identities of those are still unknown thus far.
