A new logo for Captain Marvel was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con in the summer of 2019. News later followed that the first films directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck would be replaced by Nia DaCosta (2021's Candyman).
The character of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) was confirmed to have a key role in the Captain Marvel sequel alongside Spectrum/Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), who had previously been seen as a child in the first film and an adult in The Marvels reportedly wrapped its production a few weeks ago, after spending most of the fall shooting the film.
Larson shared a look at the new logo on social media by posting an image of a necklace adorned with the new design. The symbol incorporates the three logos of Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Spectrum. The logos are layered on top of one another with the same red and gold Captain Marvel color scheme. Alongside the image, Larson posted the film's release date of February 17th, 2023. Check out Larson's post below:
Whether or not this is actually the new logo for The Marvels or just a cool design Larson had put on a necklace is still to be seen. It would make sense for this to be a new symbol for the film though, as The Marvels title card incorporates the logos of all three heroes. With production recently wrapping, it seems likely that fans could be seeing the first footage of the new film sometime soon. However, with the film still over a year away, it's likely that the first trailer is still a ways off.
Despite being pushed as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's core characters going into Phase 4, it still feels that fans don't really know who Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel actually is in this universe. Her debut film served as a good introduction to the character, but her role in Avengers: Endgame didn't do much to develop the character. It's been over two years since she was on screen (not including her cameo at the end of alongside Ms. Marvel and Spectrum in The Marvels. There's no word on if Captain Marvel or Spectrum will show up anywhere anytime before then, but Ms. Marvel will be debuting with her own series on Disney+ sometime next summer.
