Marvel Studios recently unveiled a celebration of the MCU's past, present, and future, now that Phase 4 is fully under the swing. The presentation not only reaffirmed the sequels' release date, but it revealed that Captain Marvel 2 will be called The Marvels, which is only fitting due to the cast involved. While Larson will reprise the role as Carol, she will be ed by two important key characters from her mythology. After introducing the adult Ms. Marvel character in the coming sequel.
The Marvels is the perfect title as Carol is no longer the only Captain Marvel-hero in the sequel, with Ms. Marvel being directly inspired by Carol and Monica having been the second Captain Marvel in the comics. While this reveal did happen only a week after Marvel Comics published a new The Marvels comic, the sequel will have nothing to do with the book. The Marvels comic series focuses on other characters and consists of anthology stories, which isn't the case for the Captain Marvel 2 sequel. The MCU's usage of the name is a way to reflect that Carol, Monica, and Kamala are equally billed as they come together in the MCU. The fact that they are not calling it Captain Marvel: The Marvels, amplifies the notion that they have equal billing.
Building on the name is The Marvels' logo, which represents the Guardians of the Galaxy, the individual lead characters usually the ones to have their names in every film title of their respective franchises. But it does make sense for The Marvels to be the name of Captain Marvel 2, especially as Larson was on the record for wanting to see Kamala and Carol come together in a follow-up movie after 2019's Captain Marvel.
Although it wouldn't be shocking if Larson's Carol somehow has a surprise cameo in Ms. Marvel season 1, possibly to begin setting up their coming relationship for the movie. The sequel will also be crucial for Carol and Monica as WandaVision alluded to the latter having some issues with Captain Marvel. That will make their reunion even more compelling as it will be interesting to see how they clear the air between one another. The Marvels is already proving to be one of the more unique films as part of MCU's Phase 4, with Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan ing forces for what will likely be a huge adventure in Captain Marvel 2.
