brand new to S.H.I.E.L.D., and doesn't know that aliens or superheroes exist yet. But, how will his first meeting with Fury go? Gregg surprisingly likens it to Coulson and Fury's "meet-cute moment" before saying, "I don’t think Sam will put it that way."
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the canon TV materials have years of familiarity with these characters, so it will undoubtedly be fun to see how they meet, and whether or not they hit it off right away. A "meet-cute" is a common romantic comedy scene where the love interests first meet, so Coulson and Fury's meet-cute may well be friendship at first sight too. They clearly have a close relationship several years down the road, but whether or not they see eye to eye from the get go will be for Captain Marvel to reveal.
However the first meeting between Coulson and Fury plays out, fans are just excited to see Coulson back on the big screen, and in this new setting. A young, MC Hammer-loving Coulson could wind up being an even bigger scene-stealer than Coulson already was. Plus, if he's got an appropriate 90s hairstyle all his own (fingers crossed for a mullet), then there's great potential for Coulson comedy in Captain Marvel. How much he and Fury actually factor in isn't clear so far, so hopefully young Coulson has a few memorable scenes throughout the movie.
