WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2.

Juste Belmont plays a big role in Castlevania: Nocturne set hundreds of years after Castlevania, the sequel series would have the chance to explore not only its lead Belmont character but also some of his ancestors. In the first episode of Castlevania: Nocturne, we are briefly introduced to Julia Belmont, who is killed by Olrox in front of her son, Richter. While Richter’s revenge took a backseat amid bigger problems, his lineage continued to be an important part of the story in season 2.

With Erzsebet Báthory and Drolta Tzuentes closer than ever to achieving their goals, the Castlevania: Nocturne characters had to forces to avoid Sehkmet’s return. The final battle of Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 saw Richter, Annette, Maria, Alucard, and Juste teaming up to defeat both Erzsebet and Drolta, resulting in some of the best action sequences in the show. One highlight from the battle was Juste Belmont, who finally regained his magic and unleashed his full power to help his grandson. Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 also revealed a little more about Juste Belmont and his childhood.

Juste Belmont Is Julia Belmont’s Father And Richter Belmont’s Grandfather

Richter Never Met His Grandfather Until Castlevania: Nocturne Season 1

Juste Belmont was introduced in Castlevania: Nocturne season 1 as a silver-haired man who paid for Richter’s dinner. Richter was not aware that this man was his grandfather because Juste decided it would be better to watch his grandson from the shadows without becoming a part of his life. Having lost many people, including his daughter Julia, Juste was now reclusive and could not even use his magic. Juste secretly assisted Tera and gave her money to raise Richter alongside her daughter, Maria. However, Juste eventually had to reveal himself to his grandson.

Although Juste was not there when his daughter died – he even asked Richter if Julia’s death had been peaceful – he watched his mother and best friend getting killed. This succession of traumatic events not only drove Juste away from the family he had left but also made him unable to use magic. While Juste was still as great with a whip as any Belmont, he could not use his magic despite having once been one of the most skillful sorcerers in his family. Fortunately, in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2, Juste was able to access his powers again.

How Castlevania: Nocturne’s Juste Belmont Is Different From His Game Counterpart

Netflix’s Castlevania Streamlined The Belmont Family’s Lineage

Juste, Maria, and Alucard at the end of Castlevania Nocturne season 2

While Castlevania: Nocturne’s Juste Belmont is a ing character on the show, he is the protagonist of Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. Another difference is that we meet Juste as an old man in Castlevania: Nocturne, whereas in the game he is a young adult. Additionally, Castlevania’s game lore does not make it clear how Juste Belmont is related to Richter. We only know that Juste is Richter’s ancestor. The Netflix series preferred to establish Juste as Julia’s father, therefore making him Richter’s grandfather.

Juste only met Alucard once as a child before they reunited decades later.

Another interesting question is how Juste Belmont is related to Trevor Belmont. In the games, Juste is the grandson of Simon Belmont, who was eventually established as Trevor and Sypha’s son. Assuming the same applies to Nocturne, that would make Just Belmont the great-grandson of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades. When talking about his childhood at the end of Castlevania: Nocturne season 2, Juste mentioned how his father and grandfather would talk about Alucard as if he were part of the family. Juste only met Alucard once as a child before they reunited decades later.

How Powerful Juste Belmont Is In Castlevania: Nocturne

Juste Is One Of The Most Powerful Belmonts

Castlevania Nocturne Juste

In his prime, Juste Belmont was one of the most powerful magicians in the history of his family. Trevor and Sypha having a son at the end of Castlevania season 4 meant that the Belmont lineage would now include sorcerers, which is why most Belmonts born after that were great at not only using a whip but also at using magic. Like Sypha, Juste Belmont could use different types of elemental magic, although his signature move was always a fire blast.

After finally being able to use his powers again in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2, Juste used his fire blast to stop one of Maria’s dark creatures from attacking her. He also ed Richter and the others in the final battle against Erzsebet Báthory and did not disappoint. While we never got to see Juste in his prime in Netflix’s Castlevania franchise, Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 gave Richter’s grandfather just enough time to show his skills and prove why he is considered one of the most powerful Belmont to have lived.
