In DC Comics, Batman has had a respectable amount of love interests over his long career as both Gotham City’s golden child and its dark protector, ranging from news reporters to rich businesswomen to the very villains he strives to stop on a nightly basis. But for all the broken hearts and promises made on Bruce Wayne’s end, there’s only one true love that Batman will always keep coming back to.

Never feeling like he’s worthy of love or even happiness, Batman has always struggled with the kind of emotional intelligence needed to sustain a healthy relationship, with his want to be alone but need to be around those who accept him putting him in a constant state of brooding.

In a Reddit post from r/DCcomics that highlights a scene between Batman, Wonder Woman and Catwoman taken from the anthology graphic novel Batman: The World, Batman reveals who he will love until the day he dies, with Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth forcing Bruce to it that person is Catwoman.

In the story titled “Paris,” one of the many shorts compiled in Batman: The World that sees a crew of talented international creators give their unique takes on the Caped Crusader, Batman is shown to be hot on the heels of Catwoman when Wonder Woman arrives on the scene brandishing her signature lasso. Revealed to have been a trap set by Catwoman so that she could snag the lasso from Diana for her own means, Catwoman wraps Batman up in it and asks a question, with her words going unheard save for Batman’s answer: “Yes. Until the day I die.”

Scott Snyder Teases New Batman-Related Absolute Book to DC’s Lineup

DC Comics’ Absolute line has been a major hit and it’ll get bigger soon with a new book that will be closely related to Absolute Batman.

With a satisfied smile, Catwoman says, “So… was that so difficult, my Dark Knight?” making it easy to read between the lines and understand what these star-crossed lovers are talking about. Likely asking Batman a simple “Do you love me?” or even a more on-brand “How long will you love me for?” query, the fact that Selina needed to steal Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth to get something out of Batman in the first place is an endearing yet slightly hilarious way for Catwoman to get to the bottom of Bruce’s feelings, especially considering he almost never shares them willingly.

Batman Has Had Many Love Interests Before But He Always Goes Back to Catwoman

Batman Has Found Love Across Multiple Mediums

batman with past love interests

Batman will always circle back to Catwoman and her particular brand of mischievousness despite Bruce having multiple other lovers before — like the mother of his son, Talia al Ghul, and even Wonder Woman for a time — but the pair couldn’t make it official when it mattered, with Batman and Catwoman's wedding towards the end of Tom King’s Rebirth-era run on Batman’s solo book being completely called off in a way that still irks fans today. Regardless of when or even if Batman will settle down for good, it’s clear who that person should and most likely will be: Catwoman.
