What We Know About Gary Goldsmith
The Royal "Buncle"
The 58-year-old Gary is the youngest brother of Kate's mom, Carole Middleton, and refers to himself as the "buncle" or "bad uncle." Starting from humble beginnings in West London, he worked at a tech recruitment firm until he sold his shares and made a fortune in 2005. He then lived a lavish lifestyle, which included buying property in Ibiza and an island in the Mediterranean. “I often read that people think I’m [...] a bad boy,” Gary said in his introduction video. “It’d be lovely to put the record straight, but winding people up is probably my favorite hobby.”
“I’m an absolute nightmare to live with. There’s a reason I’ve had four wives.”
In his intro video, Gary went on to say, “I’m an absolute nightmare to live with. There’s a reason I’ve had four wives.” According to the Daily Mail, Gary pleaded guilty to assaulting, Julie-Ann Goldsmith, his fourth wife, after a 2017 drunken argument. He was fined about $6000 and sentenced to 12 months of community service. Women’s Aid, a charity ing domestic violence survivors, put out a statement criticizing the decision to include Gary in the house.
Gary's Big Brother Journey
He's Got Kate's Back
In his Celebrity Big Brother UK introduction video, Gary said that his niece Kate, whom he referred to as “the future queen of our country,” is “simply perfect.” He added, “It’s difficult to get hold of Kate at the best of times, and she’s got children, and I love the fact that she’s putting family first.
According to the ITV network, Gary also said that he believes Kate and her husband, Prince William, are both "the savior of the royal family.”

Has The Royal Family Commented?
A Royal Relief
Though the royal family has no comment on the fact that Kate's uncle, Gary, was appearing on Celebrity Big Brother UK, they must be relieved that he was eliminated. When Gary first entered the house, host AJ Odudu asked him if Kate would be watching the show. “If she is, it’ll be behind a sofa, I guess,” he responded.
“Which sofa though? Where’s the sofa?” the hosts followed up, referring to Kate's recent absence from the public eye. “It’ll be a nice one, in a nice house, I can guarantee that,” Gary replied, clearly unwilling to take the bait. For that reason, his appearance on the show wasn't a total disaster for Gary or the royal family.
Celebrity Big Brother UK airs six nights a week, from Sunday through Friday at 9 p.m. EDT on ITV1 and ITVX.
