Chappell Roan undoubtedly emerged from 2024 as one of the music industry’s biggest breakout stars. Thanks to runaway hits like “Hot to Go!” and “Pink Pony Club,” The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess catapulted the Willard, Missouri native into superstardom. 2025 is prepping to be even bigger for the Missourian as her debut album is contending for Album of the Year at the Grammys.

For that reason, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Chappell Roan’s second album, which she’s confirmed to already be in the midst of working on. With that in mind, it’s still in the early stages of development, meaning that the album has yet to have a name and little is known about its content.

Still, though, thanks to interviews that Chappell and her team have had regarding this mysterious album, there’s enough information out there to decipher what kind of topics her album could cover, as well as when she could drop it.

Chappell Roan Has Already Recorded At Least 5 Tracks

The Recording Process Has Begun

Chappell Roan has enjoyed immense success over the past year or so off the strength of her debut album and singles like Saturday Night Live and Coachella. Not only is she already recording her album, but she has recorded five songs, according to songwriter/producer Daniel Nigro in The New York Times. Nigro previously collaborated with Roan on her debut album, as they produced "Pink Pony Club" in 2019. Now, they reunite for album #2.

He describes the music that Chappell Roan has recorded thus far for the album as including a "fun, up-tempo country song" that features "a fiddle ... It's a new version of Chappell." This seems to suggest that while Chappell had a lot to offer in her debut, her sophomore effort is already set to showcase her unlike ever before. Nigro also confirms that the album will feature "The Subway," a song that hasn't been officially released yet, but that Roan has been performing in concert for her fans. Additionally, "a couple of ballads and a mid-tempo rock song" are among the recordings.

What to Expect from Chappell Roan's Second Album

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Chappell Roan confirmed that she's recorded five or six songs with Nigro, adding they have a "country song ... dancy song ... one that's really Eighties ... one that's acoustic ... and one that's really organic, live-band, Seventies vibe. It's super weird." Roan then goes in-depth on the personal expectations she has for her next single coming out of the astronomical attention that "Good Luck Babe!" has received. She indicates that the direction she plans to go for this album will certainly be different than what came before, beginning with her follow-up

"[The next single] needs to have more grit, whether that means more pop grit or rock grit or just bite to the lyrics,” she tells the Stone. She then goes on to discuss her latest influences, which presumably could be an indicator to the sound that she's aiming for with this new album. “Anything that I listen to—Joan Jett, Heart, Gaga—I want to feel like them. So I’ll just be inspired by that feeling and how I can capture it.” These being the artists she’s pulling inspiration from would ideally suggest that she’s taking a darker, harder, edgier direction with her music.

However, producer Daniel Nigro (who reunites with Roan after their producer-wrist collaborations on Princess) mentions in that previously mentioned New York Times article that that they’re still going in a fun direction with their music. Taking their perspectives together, that would seem to mean that audiences eager for more of the whimsical hyper-pop that the duo delivered on Midwest Princess can expect more of that, but with a dash of grit in the vein of Lady Gaga or Joan Jett.

When Could Chappell Roan's Second Album Come Out?

Could It Be Coming Sooner Rather Than Later?

Chappell Roan on Saturday Night Live

As of the time of writing, there is no announced due date slated for Chappell Roan's next album. There isn't even a tentative date that she or her team have expressed. Plus, seeing as the end of 2024 is approaching dangerously fast, as this is late November, it's not likely that she could drop a surprise album before the year is over. In the process of elimination, it would seem likely that the album will release in 2025, and even then, the question of "when" specifically still lingers.

However, that doesn't mean that she isn't ready to drop it sooner rather than later. After all, she continues to quietly tease the album, even performing an unreleased track, "The Giver," on Saturday Night Live. One would assume that this is another song expected for the album. Speaking of, if five or six songs have been recorded, Chappell may be halfway done with the album, considering as Midwest as 12 tracks. Early 2025 would seem a strong possibility, on speculation alone. Whenever the album drops, Chappell Roan fans have every reason to be excited for her next follow-up.
