8 Violet Mikami’s Ex-Boyfriend Sam Carver
Carver And Violet Were Getting Along Well Until This Season
At first glance, Sam and Violet don't seem like a potential match, but they have similarities. They are intelligent and hard-working individuals who have experienced personal losses and been in trouble with their superiors for taking major risks during life-saving situations. After the sudden loss of her previous boyfriend, Hawkins, Violet felt emotionally unwilling to commit to a serious relationship again. That is until paramedic Sylvie Brett encouraged Violet to go out with Sam, which led to a casual relationship.
Despite Sam and Violet's love for each other, Violet is still hesitant about having a boyfriend in the workplace after Hawkins' tragic death.
Despite Sam and Violet's love for each other, Violet is still hesitant about having a boyfriend in the workplace after Hawkins' tragic death. Sam also continues to have issues at times in Firehouse 51 because of his temper. This includes a fire case towards the end of season 12 when Sam is aggressive towards an abusive father, which was triggered by his childhood. After this altercation and his toxic bond with Tori, Sam will have to tread carefully if he intends to have a relationship again with Violet.
7 Matt Casey’s Ex-Girlfriend Gabriela Dawson
Casey and Gabby Were A Primary Couple On This Show
Before his relationship and eventual marriage to Sylvie, Matt Casey was married to paramedic Gabriela Dawson. Despite their excessive workloads, the two had a ionate relationship. However, there was heartbreak when Gabriela lost her baby during pregnancy and lost custody of her adoptive son Louie in season 5. Gabriela left the show in season 6 to provide aid in Puerto Rico, resulting in her divorce from Casey. She makes recurring appearances in seasons 7 and 8, which mark a pleasant but conflicting reunion for Gabriela and Casey because, at this point, Casey and Sylvie start developing feelings for each other.
While Casey deeply loved Gabriela during their time together, they had disagreements about how to have children. Gabby always wanted to have a biological child. However, Casey thought adoption was the best option because he constantly worried about Gabby's health due to a pre-existing aneurysm that could've killed her during her pregnancy. Gabriela's departure was difficult for her and Casey due to their long relationship, but fortunately, Casey found Sylvie afterward.
6 Blake Gallo's Ex-Girlfriend Violet Mikami
Violet And Gallo Were Flirtatious And Competitive
Violet's first appearance on Chicago Fire revolved around her casual relationship with firefighter Blake Gallo. Given that they went to the same fire academy, they've always competed with each other. During a call involving a car crash in season 8, episode 10, Hold Our Ground, Violet argues with Gallo about not following proper protocol. However, their arguments turn out to be flirtatious behavior, resulting in them having a non-serious fling.
The bond between Violet and Gallo takes a turn when Violet meets Hawkins and develops feelings for him. After Hawkins' tragic death, Violet has sparks with Gallo again when she comforts him during his recovery from a neck injury. But Gallo realizes that Violet's care for him is a result of her grievance about losing Hawkins, causing Gallo to distance himself from her because they both know that it is the wrong time to commit to a serious relationship. Gallo would eventually leave Firehouse 51, but he and Violet have maintained respect for each other as friends.
5 Matt Casey's Girlfriend Sylvie Brett
Casey And Sylvie Were A Highly Anticipated Couple The Last Few Seasons
After Matt Casey's divorce from Gabriela due to her leaving for Puerto Rico to provide aid, it seemed unlikely for Casey to find love again. However, he and Sylvie slowly develop feelings for each other. This didn't come easy for Sylvie either, as she was seeing another man before starting her bond with Casey. The connection between Casey and Sylvie has always been linked to their mutual bond with Gabriela. Initially, it appeared that a potential relationship wouldn't work since both had experienced break-ups with others in the firehouse.
While Casey and Gabriela parted ways, Sylvie also had failed love interests, including firefighter Joe Cruz and Antonio Dawson. However, in season 7, as Matt and Sylvie grow closer together, they are constantly driven apart due to Brett's previous love with Fire Chaplain Kyle Sheffield and Casey's brief reunion with Gabriela after a fundraiser. Matt and Sylvie are uncertain about how to commit to a serious relationship, but the two ultimately get together and marry because they have seen the good in each other over the years and make one another happy.
4 Kelly Severide’s Wife Stella Kidd
Severide And Stella Have Maintained A Strong Relationship
The relationship between Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd is arguably the most complex pairing in Chicago Fire because they are separate for long periods thanks to Severide's gig with OFI (Office of Fire Investigation) and Stella's Girls on Fire program. Their work at Firehouse 51 also takes up a large chunk of their time, and Stella worries about Severide coming home days later after an OFI case. Despite this, Kelly and Stella always each other's work ethic.
After Grant and several casual relationships, Stella always had feelings for Severide, who deeply cared about her as well, resulting in their marriage and lasting rapport with Firehouse 51.
However, the beginning of their relationship was in doubt because Severide disliked Stella's toxic relationship with her first husband, Grant Smith. Kelly even saved Stella from Grant in season 5 after Smith threatened Kidd with a knife. Severide was upset with Kidd because she refused to press charges against Grant and wanted to resolve this issue herself. After Grant and several casual relationships, Stella always had feelings for Severide, who deeply cared about her as well, resulting in their marriage and lasting rapport with Firehouse 51.
3 Violet Mikami’s Ex-Boyfriend Evan Hawkins
Violet And Hawkins Were A Pleasant But Ultimately Tragic Pairing
After her flirtatious relationship with Blake Gallo, Violet grows attached to Paramedic Field Chief Evan Hawkins, a stern leader who develops feelings for Violet after their first few confrontations. Hawkins appreciates Violet's work ethic as a paramedic, particularly during his ride-along with her as they saved a newborn baby. Their bond grows after Violet kisses Hawkins during a Gala, but they are concerned that others in the workplace will find out about their relationship.
No matter how much they try to keep their distance, and the jeopardy placed on their jobs, Violet and Evan disregard other people's opinions and decide to continue seeing each other. Unfortunately, Hawkins faces a tragic end as he is crushed by a collapsed building while trying to rescue a male civilian. Evan's death leaves Violet in emotional despair, making it difficult to do her job, and she refuses to find love again in the workplace. That is until she sees Carver, who may still be in play by the end of season 13.
2 Jimmy Borelli’s Ex-Girlfriend Jessica Chilton
Borelli And Chilton Were A Brief But Intriguing Couple

However, when Chilton and Borelli make out in the shower and are caught by interim Chief Dallas Patterson, Jessica laughs off the situation, angering Borelli and breaking up with her. Borelli and the firehouse are upset over Chilton's erratic behavior at 51 and during her work with patients. They learn that this is a result of Jessica's alcoholism and depression over the death of her sister Alyssa. Chilton is eventually fired but seeks help at rehab thanks to Severide's assistance.
1 Stella Kidd’s Ex-Husband Grant Smith
Grant Was A Devastating Marriage For Stella
Before finding love with Severide, Stella Kidd had a toxic and abusive relationship with her first husband, Grant Smith. Grant dealt with several problems, including anxiety and drug addiction. This made it difficult for Stella to focus on her marriage and her aspirations to be a firefighter in Firehouse 51. No matter how much Kidd tried to help Smith, he could never get himself out of trouble.
The most challenging part for Stella was to convince herself to part ways with Grant and be with Severide. However, Kidd and Kelly questioned themselves about whether their relationship would work without jeopardizing their careers. Fortunately, after overcoming her struggles with Smith, Stella manages to commit herself to a caring and loving relationship with Severide and work well together as fellow firefighters at Firehouse 51 in Chicago Fire.
